Sorry for the repost, but this is seriously getting under my skin right now because DH just asked who our LO's godparents will be. Is it just me? Or would you be mad too?
Am I being extremely selfish that I don't want SIL to be LO's godmother? We have had a rough past two years and don't talk anymore. DH and her have just started talking again in the past few weeks, and he isn't completely over all of the mean e-mails and texts she has sent to me... but family is family, and he's trying to do the right thing. I understand that she is his only sibling... and it would be nice of us... but his only reason he is considering her as the godmother instead of his cousin (who we're closer to) is because she would be mad as hell if we didn't ask her.
Seriously? Do we have to do EVERYTHING to please her? She isn't even nice to us, and has gone out of her way to make me miserable. She is not someone I want my kids to learn about life from, or how to treat people. She lied to the priest about precana for her wedding... I mean are these morals I want my kids to learn, NO!
Is it just me? Would you be mad? WWYD?

I wouldn't be mad at him for suggesting her (family is family after all), but I'd have a non-angry conversation with him about the decision.
Be careful not to go into everything bad she does (he might just get defensive), but make it clear that you don't want SIL as your LO's godmother. Kids don't HAVE to have godparents, so your best bet might be to have none rather than cause problems.
