No. I found the ones they give at the hospital (they are called Soothies and you can also get them at BRU, etc.) are the best for newborns. I brought a few of those home with us and then neither of my kids liked a pacifier at all. Since they are cheap items, I wouldn't necessarily register for a ton. You can always pick them up and try a few different kinds if it looks like your baby will like them.

I did so that I wouldn't get a bunch of the kinds I didn't want. DD only likes MAM ones... and the kinds that have caps (which is awesome, btw) because they are light. DD used the soothies also when she was BFing but didn't want them once she switched to bottles.
In the end, only kindness matters...

This! My cousin who has a 1 yr old highly recommended the one from the hospital. She said they were the best and her baby didn't like any of the store bought ones!

I registered and received Avent and NUK pacifiers. I hate those soothie ones with a passion (they look like bottle nipples-UGLY!) and brought my own to the hospital. DD liked the Avent ones.
I registered for Avent, however, my friend sent me some by GumDrop. Of course I haven't any experience using either of them yet...but my friend who has a 6 mo. old doesn't like paci's...but when she came over the other night I gave her the gumdrop paci and she took it!

Yes, and DS never took a paci.
I would advise using the ones you get from the hospital (soothies) and seeing if they like them 1st.
Then you can get more as needed.
