My LO is 11m old but absolutely WILL NOT drink out of a sippy. In fact, I'm not sure he actually gets the concept. He'd rather flip it upside down and chew on the bottom of it. He has occasionally taken a sip or two, but he doesn't like it an lets the milk run out of his mouth like it's poison.
My husband and I also fill up sippy cups for US and drink them with him to get him to see how "cool" they are. But no dice.
Any suggestions? And before you say buy a different kind, I have 8 different kinds...none of them have helped :-)
Re: Help us with the sippy transition
We started putting a sippy cup out for dd when she was 4 months old (with just water in it.) Then sometimes I would add a tiny bit of apple juice, too. (Not much, though - I'm not big on juice for her right now.)
We would also show dd how to drink out of it, just like you and your dh.
Our daughter really likes the straw kinds (I bought some at Target.) Do you have some like that? She can hold it easily and doesn't have to tip it upside down so it's not as much 'work.' She loves it now. (When she drank out of the other cups she would do what your son does - let it run of her mouth all down herself.)
If she's not into drinking it all at once (which she almost never is) I just set it down on the floor with her as she plays. Eventually she drinks it.
Hope things get better and he starts to like it more.
Thanks for your tips :-)

DS hates juice...even watered down...even full strength. He won't drink ANYTHING out of it.
He uses it as a weapon to throw at the dogs :-)

I just finally went drill sergeant on him and gave him the choice of milk in a sippy or nothing. He screamed bloody murder at me for two days, and now he drinks out of a sippy as long as I hold it for him. Starting next week it's "hold your own sippy" boot camp! haha.
They can go without milk for a day or two, it won't kill them, and you can give water in a bottle to keep him from getting dehydrated if you're worried (and give him cereal w/ formula mixed in to help with nutrients). I took the tough love approach and it worked for us!
I think we're headed down the tough love road...we had to do it with nap/bed time already...so why not with sippy cups :-)

We were in the same boat. I think we have ten kinds of sippy cups. He prefers the regular cup which, frankly, is a huge pain and mess for me. He would take juice out of a straw which I would fill and put in his mouth. Then this past week he learned to suck out of the straw as I held it with my finger as the stopper. 2 or 3 days of that and he can use a normal straw from the cup himself. He is just now learning to stop sucking. In the beginning he would just keep going and spill or cough. The sippy cup straws are still a little tough for him. I think he may be lazy. ; )
Try a straw? We are in those exclusively now and will go back to regular sippy cups when I am sure he gets it.
