*Vent* I HATE car shopping!

Just a little vent, we've decided that we need to get rid of our Tacoma to make room for our growing family, and I absolutely HATE car shopping!

Re: *Vent* I HATE car shopping!

  • I don't know if this will help the looking for a car process, but DH and I test drove a bunch of cars and told the salesman up front we weren't looking to buy for a few months, but just wanted to see what was out there. Then when we decided what we wanted to buy, we went to the dealer's website and put in an inquiry with the internet sales department. They gave us a quote within an hour. The next day we printed it out, walked into the dealership with the quote, drove the car one more time to make sure we still wanted it and did the financing. We didn't have to hagle over a price. There was no back and forth "we want to pay this, you want us to pay this." We were seriously in and out in 90 minutes. It was the best experience ever.

  • i always let DH go pick about 3 cars he likes. then i will test drive it and make final decison. I dont know what to look for in cars, so he gets to narrow, the selection and i pick.
  • I hear ya looud and clear!!!! it took us almost a year to get my car replaced, mostly cause we couldn't find the right one for our growing needs. Then once I pregnant it all became so real. We ended up going with the new 2011 subaru outback. It has plenty of trunk space plus the seats go down, all wheel drive and can tow small trailers and campers.

The first guy was such a slimy ass that we left the lot and he freaked me out so hard that I took the long way back to my car. Then we went to another lot a couple weeks later and had a great experience. They have a special running for costco members so they only bargining was really on our trade in and they ended up giving us more than we really were expecting.  OVERall my first new car buying experience (I always got used and paid cash) was good in the end and I LOVE my new car.

GOOD LUCK can't wait to hear what you got!

  • LOL we are car shopping too!  We just got back from going on a couple test drives.  We were dreading it, but were actually pleasantly surprised.  The salesmen weren't pushy and we really had a great time.  I hope it's not so bad for you, either!

  • Shop online first!!!  This is what I did when we got the Commander.  I took the internet price with us- then haggled from there (I like to haggle) instead of starting at the sticker price.  Also, have them print off the car fax off for you asap so that you know how many drivers its had and how long it has been on the lot.  The Commander had been on the lot for 6 months so it gave me a LOT of room to say, "Well this car isn't going anymore, so XX is the amount I'm willing to pay, if you're not willing to come down to that, I'll come back in 3 months and see if you're willing to see it at that."  Most dealerships don't want the cars to sit on their lot long, so its a big bargaining chip!

I will second the Subaru though (I NEVER buy a brand spankin new car)!!  DH has one and it is going on 300,000 miles and he didn't even take care of it that well before he met me.  AND I know a girl who's mom drover her Subaru for over 500,000 miles!!

  • Me too, we just bought a new Jeep and I dreaded every second of it. I thought it was stupid that we're buying a new vehicle which is an extra bill on top of baby expenses. We both drove Jeep Wranglers though so we needed a larger vehicle so we bought a Liberty

This!  We just bought a Ford Expedition in July and this is they way we went.  Totally easy and ended up with a much better deal than we were expecting.  We did a lot of research on "True Market Value" for our area.  I think we used this website:  https://www.edmunds.com/tmv/index.html  hope that helps!
