Breastfeeding

What to register for when BF?

Hi all!  I'm a new lurker on this board, so I'm sorry if this question has been asked recently and I just missed it.  I am starting to get my registry put together and had a question.  If all goes according to planned once LO is born, I want to breast feed.  I know that sometimes BF'ing doesn't go according to plan, but assuming it does, what are some items I need to put on my registry.  I will be a SAHM if that makes a difference.  I have registered for a single electric breast pump as was recommended by a lactation consultant at BRU.  What else?  TIA!!

Re: What to register for when BF?

  • Congrats on your upcoming arrival and on deciding to BF...it's a wonderful experience :)

Some of the things that helped me were: a nursing cover, lanolin ( I like the medela brand best), Lansinoh bags for storing milk,  a Boppy, at least 2 covers for the boppy, and for when you'll need to bottle feed the pumped milk, I love the Breastflow bottles. They closely mimic bfing and my son had no issue going from breast to bottle.

Which type of pump did they recommend? I have a medela swing and love it!

  • I registered for the Medela Single Deluxe Battery/Electric Breastpump.

  • Besides the pump, you'll need bottles, storage bags, and breast pads.

Other than that, I'd just see how it goes when the time comes. I bought a tube of Lanolin or whatever it's called, and returned it because I didn't end up needing it.

  • I would go for the double pump though.  You can use it as a single if needed, but if you need to pump both sides it is so much faster to have the double.

  • I would put the boppy and at least 1 extra cover.

I love the lansinoh bags for freezing.

DH said DS takes the vent aire advance wide bottles best, I never gave him a bottle.

breast pads, I had issues regulating a long time because I was pumping while at school but I would recommend at least 1month supply.

I would also recommend a nursing bra with good support.

for the cream, I asked my RN's at the hospital for tubes every chance I could. I came home with like 3. there small but good to have as just in case tubes. I left one in my pump bag, one in the living room and one on my night stand. I never need to actually pick one up but did have to use it a few times because of a cracked nipple (3months) and a few times early on when they were getting pretty soar feeling.

    things you don't need:

milk storage system, someone had posted on here a youtube video for a system she made using a gift bags
