BFing/pumping and Lumps

I'm a little freaked and need to know if this is common. I EP and while adjusting my pump, i felt a lump, it's hard and close to the skin. Has anyone gone through this before.

MY PP appointment is after the weekend, so I am going to bring it up then too.

  • push from outside of the lump, massage inward, and just keep moving inward until the lump is gone - sounds like a blocked duct

  • I agree with PP, probably a clogged duct. I get them frequently and have to massage them out. Try massage, hot compresses, hot shower, etc., and see if it softens. The best way to relieve a clogged duct is to nurse but I know that may not be possible. My DS doesn't latch too often but sometimes I can get him to for a little while and it softens the nodule much faster than anything else. Sometimes it can take a few days. If it's still there after awhile, talk to your doc b/c there is a form of aggressive breast cancer (read about it and can't remember the name) that presents itself similar to a clogged duct.
