I can see now why people go insane. There's just so... much.
I don't even know where to begin
I agree. Planning weddings are a PITA!

Uhm... can someone make me a list of what I need to do? Keep in mind this is going to be small. And very minimal.
Here's how we did it.
1. Go get license.
2. Find a minister or a JP or someone to actually do the marrying part.
3. Pick a date.
4. Get married.
Seriously, we got married in our living room on a Friday afternoon, by a minister we'd never met (we're a couple of atheist heathens), with a couple friends as witnesses. Voila!

It was pretty damn awesome. Then we went downtown and crashed a Christmas party we'd been invited to for a local company. Instant wedding reception!
Of course, the in-laws were pretty p!ssed about the whole thing, but whatever. They got over it.

I actually loved planning our wedding. We got married 10 months after we got engaged.
If you do Vegas, I think you just need the license, the dress, the rings and the groom.
If you wait, then there could be a whole lot more, if you want. I have a great book I'm more than willing to send to you to help plan. Although, I don't want to overwhelm you since you said small and minimal.
Oh, not to get you wrapped up in The Knot, but they have a pretty good checklist on their website, FWIW.

The best advice I got when planning the wedding was: Prioritize first what is important to you. For example, music and pictures were very important to me, so we spent larger parts of the budget on that (fancy photographer with a big package of photos/books). A gigantic, fancy wedding cake that didn't even taste that great? Not so much, so we just picked my favorite bakery to order several of our favorite cakes from. Still cheaper than a gigantic cake, and I got to eat an absolutely divine chocolate turtle cake on my wedding day. Does that make sense?

Oh yeah, and invest in a good photographer. The pictures are the only thing (other than your husband and your ring) that you will have after the day is over.

<----------- Wedding planner for three years. I still have my wedding binder from my wedding in 2008.
Use me. I like it.
I'm not going to lie, the reception is the PITA. That is where most of your options are. The wedding itself is easy, especailly if you do it in Vegas with just your parents.
I will totally be your wedding biitch.

When DH and I got engaged, my brother bought me a Wedding Planning Binder for a Christmas gift. It was divided into different sections, like photography, cake, dresses, honeymoon, etc...and had "Key Questions" for me to ask, spaces for notes to keep, and lists of thank-you notes to send. I think I still have it, and I'm willing to send you the sections and blank pages, if you want! It might help...
Just let me know!

I TOTALLY agree with this.
It may seem easier to just have a friend do it with a digital, but I think you will regret it.
OOOOOOOH! I have a friend who lives in Vegas. I will ask her if she knows any good photographers in the area. For the wedding or if you wanted to do some cool shots around town all spiffed up and married.

Girls that I got married the same month with had a TTD in Vegas and their photographer was awesome. I can find out her information if you are interested.
I got to where I hated wedding planning too! It is a lot to fool with! I agree that a destination wedding in Vegas or somewhere would be a little easier.

I actually enjoyed planning my wedding, just don't take any of it too seriously and you'll have fun. Just remember that most of the stuff doesn't really matter to anyone else as long as the food and music is good.

This is what I was going to suggest, too. Even with a lowkey wedding, you'll still want wonderful pictures to look over every so often.
I was a crazy psycho who planned a full-on bells-and-whistles wedding over eighteen months and loved every minute of it. But all you REALLY need is the officiant/witness/groom The rest is whatever will make you happy. Get a great dress, have someone do your makeup, get some rings and a license and a photographer and book a honeymoon suite. There you go
If you do a reception at home then there's a lot more to consider, but the Vegas wedding will be easy-peasy.

We will be making the phone call to the parents tonight.
What we decided is if its ok, we'll do Vegas, and then have a reception 6 months or so down the road.
If not then the whole thing will be 6 months down the road.
Either way, planning needs to be done.
Here's how we did it.

2. Find a minister or a JP or someone to actually do the marrying part.
