recommend your convertible car seat please!

DS is getting too big for his infant seat.  there are so many convertible ones to choose from.  any recommendations?  our budget is rather small but I feel kind of nervous about the cheapest ones...

Re: recommend your convertible car seat please!

  • If you have a bigger back seat, the Graco MyRide 65 is a really great, safe, affordable option.  It is the biggest seat I've ever seen, though, so you do need space in your car.  I think you can get it in the $130 range?  Somewhere around there  Plus it's got a really high weight limit.

If you can afford more in the $200 range, I would highly suggest the Britax Roundabout.  We got it after we had to return the MyRide because it was way too big for my car, and I like it a lot.  The straps adjust like an infant seat, as opposed to the MyRide, which I found much more difficult to adjust.  In fact, I never could figure out how to do it!  Plus, it's much more compact.  And obviously, the Britax brand is known for being super safe.

  • We have the Britax Roundabout 50 and we love it. DD really likes it as well!
  • We have Safety 1st Alpha Omega Elite. It goes up to 100 lbs. We bought it at Sams for $110. They have them at Costco too.

  • We just got the Britax Marathon, it wasn't cheap and I didn't want to spend that much, but I felt comfortable with it and I'm glad I got it. DD is so much happier in it than her infant seat. I also looked into the Graco My Ride and heard great things about it, but it wouldn't have fit in my civic.
  • We have the Britax Advocate which is pretty much one of the most expensive ones on the market, but the Boulevard is great too and many of my friends have that one.  My DS is in the 96th % for weight and will be tall too so I wanted to get a big one that will last long.  My friend swears by consumer reports and her son is 2 but when they bought his, they got the Evenflo Triumph Advanced as it was top rated....too small for my DS though.
  • We just moved DD into a Britax Roundabout (the old version).  No complaints so far.  I didn't want to spend a lot of money either, but could not deal with doing all the research.  DD absolutely hated her infant seat at the end, I suspect because it wasn't all that comfortable.  I figured the Britax seats would be a bit more comfortable for her than cheaper seats (I don't know why I think this - I just do), so I bit the bullet.  (I am usually super-cheap, too).

  • We have a Britax Marathon and a Radian 65.  If we ever buy another carseat it will definitely buy another Radian.  The quality is just so much nicer!

  • We also have a Britax Marathon and a Radian 65.  The Britax is so nice and fits well in my Honda Accord.  We got the Radian for my husband's truck and for travel since it folds up and fits nicely in our largest suitcase.  I really like both seats and they were both highly rated safety-wise.

  • We have the Britax Blvd for both kids. I got DS's at BRU for a steal recently, but haven't used it yet, but we have it for DD and like it. I honestly don't understand the price range in carseats! more expensive CANT mean "better" right? I mean, they all have to meet the same safety standards! I would hope more $ just means better features, ease of use, maybe holds up better with wear and tear etc. That being said, of course I bought the $ ones, lol. It is just frustrating to me. I know A lot of ppl on here have gotten the Evenflo triumph, or titan, not exactly sure and were very happy with it.
