Bringing DH to First Appointment?

Did anyone bring their hubby/significant other to their first appointment?  DH would love to hear the heart beat, but I'm pretty sure that it's just going to be bloodwork and history (I'll be around 8.5 weeks by then).

    My DH came to every appointment during our first pregnancy and he'll do the same for this one.

    DH came with my to my appointment today and was in the room for everything!  It was an 8-week appt according to my lmp, but they did the ultrasound to date the pregnancy since my periods are super irregular.  They did a pap, bloodwork, then u/s.  We were able to see and hear the hb!

    My first appointment isn't till the 10th week!Sad  Dh is going, he wants to.  When I called to make the appointment, I asked if husbands usually went and she said many due, it will be a long 45 min appt. with nurse practitioner and she will be going over a lot of information so it is always good to have a second set of ears.  DH is very very very hands on when it comes to this type of stuff.  I will be very very surprised if there is an appt. he doesn't attend.

    DH is definitely coming with me.  They are going to be doing the bloodwork and medical history, but also an internal sonogram.  I can't wait to get the grainy black and white picture!

    I go on this Wed and will be 6w3d and am very hopeful to hear the heart beat. DH will be there with me.

    Thanks ladies!!!  I wasn't sure if that was normal (I didn't see any dads the last time I was there), and I'm so glad to hear it!!!

    My dh came with me.  He stayed even for the pelvic exam.  I liked that he was there because I felt supported and less nervous... He also came up with some great questions that I wouldn't have thought to ask.  He will be with me during every appt!

    I suggest you bring him along!

    I had my first appointment today and DH was in the room. He was awesome. He held my hand during the u/s and made me laugh during the interminable blood draw. I loved having him there. It wasn't weird at all.

    If they are doing an ultrasound then bring him! If not then there isn't much of a reason to bring him.  YOu wouldn't be able to hear a heartbeat on the doppler that early.

    DH came to most of the earlier appointments, we scheduled them late in the day ~6pm so that he could be there.  Our MWs were really flexible about scheduling so that he could be there.  He also took me to all my blood work appts (we had to go to the hospital lab) as I am terrified of needles, and don't feel steady enough to drive after....i know it's irrational, but i can't help it.

    DH will come to all the appointments...he did w/ the 1st and it was nice to share in the excitement w/ him. But, he has a flexable job so he can get way when needed. Good luck!

    When I was pregnant with Tooter Man, DH went to the 1st appointment.  This time around he stayed home with him while I went by myself.  He's attended all U/Ss for both pregnancies.

    We've got the first one coming up in just over a week, when I should be at about 10 weeks.  DH is going to come with me to all of them since he works flexible hours.  This is our first munchkin, so we're super-excited.
    When it's all said and done, what matters most is your relationships with other people; without good friends and family, what's the point?

    I would bring him!  My first appointment had the normal exam and blood work, but we were shocked that they took us into an ultrasound and we got to see the baby and hear the heartbeat.   Esp since I was only 6 wk 5 d at that point.   

    You'd hate for him to miss that.   My husband plans on coming to every appointment.  We had our 2nd today and got to hear the heart beat again.  He comes up with questions I don't think of which is great when we get the quiz the doctor about our concerns.

    I brought my significant other to the first appt. and he was able to hear the heartbeat and it was quite enjoyable, if he wants to be there, then bring him, he is just as much a part of the process as you are.

    DH came with me for the first appointment, because he knew I was a bit nervous, and I think he totally got that he really should be part of the whole experience. Thank God he did, because we saw not just our one baby for the first time and heard his/her heartbeat, but found out that it was twins! That moment would really not have been the same if it was only me in the room, and having to explain it to him afterward, you know?

    Additionally, my M-I-L (a nurse) told me that sometimes, seeing the u/s kicks off the "Wow, this is real!" thing for men, and I found that to be 100% true.

    DH went to every single appt.  It's just great to share what you're experiencing.  Definitely take your hubby to as many appts as he can go.

    1st pregnancy my DH came, 2nd one he didn't .  I think it's hilarious when women bring their husbands to all the appts. I just bring mine for the big ultrasound now, but I think it's a perfectly good idea to bring him to the first appt, especially with a first baby where he will probably be excited and have lots of questions.

    Husband was at first appointment with both. With both pregnancies my first appointment has included an ultrasound where we saw the baby. He would not have wanted to miss that.

    Check with your doc to see if they are planning on doing an u/s at your appointment in advance. Mine did at 8.5 weeks. That should help you to decide.

    If the DH wants to, this is an incredible way for him to feel a part of the pregnancy. He can ask the questions along side of you. My husband had a blast and was just as excited to be a part of it since normally he's just a part of seeing me in morning sickness misery. It's even more incredible to be together when you see and hear the heartbeat!!!
