Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Need Help weaning

I have to stop BF by my Doc's recommendations (KU) I've given DD all types of formula I can think of - enfamil, Earth's Best, Similac and the Similac ready to drink stuff. I've tried bottle, sippy cup, regular cup, warm, room temp, cold...she will take one sip and that's it. I've had DH give it to her and she smacks the bottle/cup out of the way. Does anyone have any suggestions? TIA

  • Have you tried whole milk?  You may want to check with your pedi first, but I can't imagine any pedi saying no to whole milk at this age if your LO won't take formula.

It took us a while to get DS to take formula.  It just took time and he's really picky about temperature.

Maybe try breast milk in the bottle first and then once she's used to the bottle, then try the formula again?

my pedi did say I could try whole milk around 10 1/2 months. Why that specific age I don't know. But good idea. That actually would be great.

  • I don't know why the PPs think your LO will take whole milk if she won't drink formula!  Neither one tastes anything like BM.  My DS won't drink formula or cow's milk out of a bottle or sippy cup, he makes a face and spits it out and smacks the cup away. He won't even drink chocolate milk, chocolate flavored soy milk or cow's milk mixed with half and half cream and strawberry Quik!  I've started weaning him by cutting out one nursing a day and I just make sure he eats a lot of yogurt, cheese and cottage cheese so he gets enough calcium and vitamin D.  He does drink watered down juice out of a straw sippy cup (1-2 sippy cups a day) so he gets his liquid that way and when I stop bfing I will increase that.  The bottom line is if your LO is as stubborn as mine and only associates milk with your boobs, she can get her milk through foods and her liquid from water/juice.
