School-Aged Children

New Poster - Kids games help

Hi,

I'm not a mom but will be organizing the kids games at my family reunion this weekend and I need some suggestions for outdoor games.

I have some options set for the younger kids (3 & under) but would really appreciate any ideas you ladies have for kids ages 4-7 and 7-12.

We will be outside (weather calls for 65-70 & sunny) in a large fenced in area with a yard-type space and a pavilion that holds two long picnic tables.   I have a tub full of supplies from years past to use and I will be shopping this afternoon for anything else I might need.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Water balloon toss (provide them with targets and supervision or they'll all get sopping wet), kick ball, ring toss (we just use hula hoops and small orange cones), provide assorted odds and ends and let them build an obstacle course, provide supplies to make their own kites

  • Kids in the 4 to 7 set love the coin toss game.  Get a posterboard and paint/marker a few round blobs on it.  Assign points to each blob (lots of points for a small blob, few for larger.)  Give them a bucket/dish of pennies and a line to stand behind and let them toss away.  Make one kid the score keeper and give a small candy or prize when a kid gets a certain number of points.

Big kids (middle school) love the game "Coke and Pepsi" which you can probably Google.

Kids from 4 to 10 love old classics like:  simon says, mother may I, red light/green light.  They're classics for a reason!
