ideas for getting jewelry off before surgery???

Ok, so I can't get my engagement or wedding ring off, and am scheduled for c-section Wed.  My doc told me yesterday that I have to get them off or they would be cut off.  I don't want that, any ideas to help get them off?  My fingers are a little swollen, but not so much that they won't move.  Any ideas would be great!  Thanks!

  • Olive oil or soap?

  • Soap usually works for me.  Soap them up really well and they should come off.

  • I usually just wet my hand and then kind of twist them while sliding them up.

  • Take a string and wrap your finger tightly from the ring down your finger a little ways.  That should redistribute some of the skin for it to slide off.  You could also try icing your hand - usually fingers will shrink up in the cold.  GL!
  • WINDEX!  The ammonia makes your tissues shrink a little and it's a trick commonly used by jewelers.  That's very mean to tell you to take it off.  I wore jewelry during my c-section and I never make my patients take theirs off.  If you need to get it removed, go to your jeweler.  A jeweler will damage it less than a hospital.

  • No suggestions.  But that stinks that they are forcing you to remove them.  I have a ring that has been stuck for years and years and I have had 3 surgeries, 3 different doctors/surgical teams..etc. (2 of which were c-sections) and had absolutely no issue. Once I told them it was stuck they really didn't say much else.
