I have a baby shower for a relative. usually I get something from the registry or my mom and I will make up a basket of things from registry. But I honestly don't know what to get her. The registry she made does not have much on it and it is very random things. I do know that they live in an apartment, so probably won't want big stuff.
Any ideas of what you get people?
Re: What do you give for baby shower gifts?
A Bissell Little Green steam cleaner.
I have been told by many of the recipients that it was the single most usfeul gift that they got for their baby shower. It's not cute, but it's realistic.

I usually go with a bath theme too and get the bathtub, wash clothes, towels, toys, and shampoo stuff.

I'm getting my sister a video monitor, b/c it's the best thing we've ever bought as far as baby/kid products go. I also got her a few baby outfits and am going to get some books to start off his library.

I'm "new" to posting here -hello everyone!- that is such an interesting gift- why a steam cleaner? Don't get me wrong- I would have invited you if thats what you would have gotten me
but is there a specific reason why steam cleaner is your gift of choice?
Because as cute as they can be, babies and small kids are messy little creatures. As you can see from this post, there are millions of people who buy bathtubs and medicines and registry stuff. I had craploads of clothes and blankets, some of which never got worn. I don't like giving piles of cutesy, useless junk that they will have to sell or donate later, or can't because it's monogrammed.
I give them something else that I KNOW they will need, and it's been appreciated. I had someone tell me a couple of months ago that it was hands-down the best gift she got. I gave it to her 4 years ago and she's still using it.

That makes sense- the reason I was asking is that I have a 9 month old and I wondered why I would need one but after I posted my question I realized it probably gets used for carpets and sofas when the cute kids throw up all over them, I'm thinking I might need to invest in said item instead of cleaning individual stains by hand w/cleaners.
I just went whole hog when I moved in April, and bought slipcovered family room couches.
I still use the Little Green for carpets and other upholstery (like the car). It gets stuff a lot cleaner than sprays.
9 month olds are still pretty stationary. When they start spilling and using furniture as a napkin, you'll want more than a can of Resolve.

This (I do the same for weddings - no one wants to buy bath mats or random household stuff, but that's typically what people need more than picture frames and candles).
I also often get baby clothes that are bigger sizes, like 6-9m or 12m, either trying to anticipate the season or something that is pretty much seasonless like onesies or sleepers. I got SO much 0-3 and 3-6 clothing and almost nothing else. Some of it I exchanged for larger sizes and my kids wore them later.
