I had a great experience at Condell. Nurses were awesome. Food is pretty good with a decent selection. I delivered on an extremely busy night and the staff made sure everyone was checked on time. I had a room all the way on the far end and it was pretty quiet. My bf's sister delivered there as well. There are no set visiting hours. It's whatever the new mom is comfortable with.
*LOVED* Condell. The care and service all around is excellent... and the bonus of a FREE 3 month gym membership (Centre Club gyms in Libertyville and Gurnee) to help new moms get back into shape post partum is a great plus.
I think both hospitals have a great reputation and you can't go wrong with either. Lake Forest Hospital is now affiliated with Northwestern Memorial Hospital (large academic medical center) which means you will likely have residents and medical students taking part in your delivery. I personally like academic medical centers because there are more people/resources at all hours. I think it depends on how you feel about having students take part in your care.

I absolutely loved delivering at Lake Forest Hospital. All of my nurses were fantastic and the facility is outstanding. The Women's Center is, for the most part, separate from the hospital. It's like it's own little oasis. It was very quiet and calm. I never felt guilty about paging my nurse to come to my room for anything - they always seemed like the genuinely enjoyed being there and helping. On top of that, the food is delicious! They have the Bedside Bistro which allows you to order food whenever you want and the menu is not your typical hospital food (for example, on our last night there, DH and I had filet mignon!). Also, I met with their lactation consultants 3 different times (once before I left the hospital and twice after I was home). They were so kind and helpful and really helped me to overcome the obstacles I encountered during the early stages of BFing.
I really could sing LF Hospital's praises all day long.
I did not love Condell. Two of the nurses I had there were absolutely fantastic but I also had some pretty bad ones. There was a shift change while I was pushing (with no epidural). I couldn't speak because I was in so much pain but I needed them to hold my legs when the contractions peaked and they ignored me and were gossiping with each other about their boyfriends and what they'd done on the weekend. It was incredibly frustrating and upsetting. I ended up having a c-section (although I won't go into detail here) and I do wonder whether it would've gone differently had I had more support during labor.
I have a friend who had a similarly unsupportive experience there 5 years ago so she went to Lake Forest for her second and loved it. That said, I've also spoken to at least 3 other women who had no problems at Condell. I guess it just depends which nurses you get.
Also, the Prepared Childbirth class at Condell wasn't really worth the money, IMO.
