TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Memorial Scholarship

I'm not writing this to be an AW, I just want to share something that has helped us heal.

DH and I established a scholarship last year in Miller's name.  The scholarship is through the Kansas State Fair and it provides money so that students can go on a field trip to the state fair.  This year we know of 100 kids that will get to go see the state fair through the scholarship and there may be more yet.

The state fair is important to Dh and I.  I worked there for several years and still volunteer with them every year.  Together Dh and I spend a lot of time there each year.

We find great comfort and healing by knowing that there will be little kids getting to see the fair.  They will get to go to the birthing barn and see a cow in labor and hopefully a calf being born, or at least a very new calf.  There will be piglets to pet, a baby chick to hold.  They will see cows being milked.  They get to "drive" a combine and see where all of our food is grown.  They'll get a coupon to get a free ice cream cone and while they eat their ice cream they learn about milk.  All things our son will never get to do, but it feels so good (and sad) to provide a way for other kids to get to go.

Re: Memorial Scholarship

  • That's wonderful, Kristy. What an amazing idea, and it'll give other children a chance they might not otherwise get. So touching!

  • That brought tears to my eyes! Not only because you are helping other people's kids but how much you guys care about the state fair!! It's great that you have something that you care about so much.
  • I've been a fundraiser for a couple universities and I can't tell you how special it was when I got to work with families creating a scholarship in honor of a lost loved one.

I know it brought great meaning and a sense of bringing something good out of the sadness for them and I'm so glad it sounds like you're finding the same.

    HUGS.

  • That is so sweet!!!

    How can I donate?

Thanks so much for asking.  At this point in time the need for this year is more than covered and my family has made me promise to tell them if there is a need that isn't.
