Pre-School and Daycare

Day 2 - home with 2 kids. Shoot me!

Day 1 (of 6 days home with both kids)- Everything was going well.  We did crafts and played.  Today we went swimming and had a playdate.  Yesterday's nap was great.  Then it was nap time today.  DS has refused to take a nap.  We were on the street when he just sat down and started crying (I ran out for 2 seconds to get more diapers 1 block from where I live).  I had to carry him over my shoulder and push the stroller with my infant just to get back home (we never made it to the store).

RIght now he's sitting on the floor screaming at the top of his lungs because he is so overtired.  He just won't sleep!!!   I tried turning off lights, hiding toys (impossible in a small apartment), reading books, lying down with him- all to no avail.

When, and if, he ever does sleep, I'm putting together the double stroller that arrived last night - that's for sure.  I don't want another event like ds lying down in the middle of the street!

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again

  • Oh no!

On days like that, you just look forward to the early bedtime for the rest of the day!

Is there a zoo or anything nearby where you can take him and wear him out tomorrow morning so he'll get a good nap in the afternoon?

  • The problem is that it is 95 degrees and humid outside.  I can't take an infant out for very long since she can't regulate her body temperature so we really can't go to the zoo.  That would be a brilliant idea - but for the intense heat we just happen to have this week.  It's hard to find inside gyms in NYC that let you just drop in - and many places are closed for the holiday weekend.

And I am SO looking forward to the early bedtime- except DH will get home and think "what's the big deal- he's nice and quiet now"

I live in NYC- I don't have a car!  I would pay for a taxi but they don't have carseats.  Oh well :(

Actually, he passed out at 6pm and just woke up at 6:45pm.  That means it was just a nap and he will be up very late tonight!

  • are you anti-tv? if not, it can help.  If ds gets overtired putting on a movie will usually get him to sit down and relax.

Anti- TV?  No!  I am such a fan of cartoons now!  That's how ds finally fell asleep today. I put him in front of the TV and he sat on the couch and fell asleep.

  • I'm sorry you had such a hard day. As someone who has been there before, you will have times like this. The joy of that is they are moments. They pass. Once you survive the beginning you will be fine. It gets better. I promise.
  • I just wanted to tell you that it does get so much easier.  Hang in there.  There were times when I was on maternity leave that I seriously thought what have I gotten myself into, I can't do this.  I don't think that anymore.  I'm sending you a big hug!
