A couple days ago, we had a bit of a scare with Fay. Her eyes were red and swollen, she was drooling like mad, and her nose was running. I called the pedi when her poop was black with blood in it. We took her in and he said she was allergic to something, but didn't know what. So, he put her on Bendryl and said to watch her for 48 hours. Well, today is 48 hours and she seems to have had very little improvement, even though we've scrupulously watched everything she has eaten. Since then, her face has developed two bright red patches and her snot as turned green. I called the pedi back and he called in a prescription for an antibiotic in case she has a sinus infection. DH said she was awake all morning, coughing and hacking. The pedi said if her face is still red this morning, we should bring her in. I called the pedi's office and the nurse really tried to convince me not to bring her in! Now I feel like a crazy helicopter mom, and I don't know if I'm overreacting or not. It's just scary to see Fay so miserable, especially when she's allergic to something and we don't know what. WWYD?
Re: Feeling like a crazy mom: WWYD?
The pedi said bring her in and the nurse tried to talk you out of it? I'd make an appointment. If there is a problem, make sure to mention the nurse tried to keep you home.
I'd rather go to the doctor for no reason than shay home with a good one- and I think you have a good reason to get DD checked out.
That's an excellent point.
You aren't crazy and if it were me I'd take her to the ER. Blood in her stool and the puffyness..it sounds scary as hell to me. I'd want someone who could run tests and get you an accurate diagnosis instead of just assuming it's an allergy or a sinus infection. I hope she feels better quickly!
You are not a crazy helicopter mom! That nurse is crazy! Absolutely bring her in and if they won't take her I suggest going to the hospital.
