WWYD re: possible cold?

So tomorrow we had plans (the boys and I) to head down to San Antonio to visit my grandparents at their retirement village. They're celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary and we wanted to have lunch with them.

Spencer just started coughing and sneezing about 6pm tonight (no freaking clue where he caught this crap, I'm thinking Jumpy Gym on Tuesday, damn it) and has a clear runny nose. I gave him some Benedryl and have the humidifier going in his room.

Would YOU take your kid to lunch where there are a shitload of old people or would you just call and cancel?

I will be SUPER upset to cancel b/c I haven't seen my grandparents in a month or so and I know they're anxious to see the boys. My grampa is 96 and not doing very well (not like a compromised immune system, just like he has achilles' heels and diverticulitis), so I like them to see the boys as often as possible. Ugh! Would you wait til tomorrow and reevaluate? He does NOT have a fever, his temp was 97.3 just now. What would be the breaker-to make it so you don't go?

thank you. Spence has never really had a full-on cold like this and I'm a little concerned. Cooper's usually the one w/ the runny nose.

oh, and anything else you would do to help Spence "feel better" quicker??

Re: WWYD re: possible cold?

  • I would take the unless he has a fever (above 100.4) and/or he's acting sick. It could be that today's rain brought in junk he didn't like.

  • Ditto - unless he's running a fever or seems unusually cranky in the morning, then I would take him.  Just warn Grandpa to keep a little distance if the kid is all snotty :)

  • Ah, the rain! That is certainly something that could have done it, his cold seemed to coincide with it and it rained a lot here. Hmm, good call V. And thanks for the advice, I will check him in the morning and if he has no fever, we'll still go. :)

    This.

We wouldn't be able to leave the house in the winter at all if we stayed home because of colds.
  • I agree. Unless he has fever or is acting sick, I'd still go.
