TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

wtf? another one over - need advice

Well, I had my first u/s today if that is what you want to call it.  Doc couldn't find anything.  Checked my hcg and it was down to 201.  A week and a half ago it was 291.  I made it to 6 weeks this time, but what does that matter.

So, I'm posting because I need advice about my next steps.  My OB basically said we could do whatever we want.  He will refer me to a specialist, but he is not sure which one.  He said the fun phrase about how I can get pregnant and how I haven't had any late losses.  So he isn't sure a RE can do anything more.  He isn't sure if genetic counseling would be useful or what else to try.

He has helped me with HSG and RPL testing.  He feels the next step is to continue taking baby aspirin and this time take progesterone prior to conceiving.  I guess I feel like that isn't going to do much for me.  My 3rd pregnancy, my progesterone was fine, this one it was less than 5 so I took suppositories.

Sorry if this is jumbled and long.  I just don't understand.  I don't even know if I want to try again, at least not right now.  A little over a year ago I had my first loss.  Unbelievable.

I go for my f/u appt in two weeks and will hopefully be bleeding by then.

Thanks in advance.

  • So sorry ((hugs)). I would go see an RE even if your OB doesn't think they can do anything. RE's will run a lot of different tests that your OB doesn't run and hopefully give you some answers.

  • sounds like you and I are in the same position today. I am so sorry for your loss.

After my last loss I had the thrombophilia panel run for clotting disorders, this time we are doing genetic testing of DH and I and I am waiting for my OB to call back with his recommendation for which specialist I should see. I'll let you know what his advice is, if you are interested?

    hugs, today sucks.

  • I am so sorry.  I think seeing an RE would be a good idea.  (((hugs)))

  • Definitely see an RE.  It could be an egg quality issue or some other ovulatory or sperm problem, and an RE would be the best person to address that.  I'm so sorry you're going through this again.

I definitely agree with everyone about seeing an RE.  They will run lots of tests.  ((hugs))

  • I'm so sorry....we are also in the same position.  I just had my 6th early miscarriage....my first was 2 1/2 years ago....I agree with the previous posters, go see an RE.  I am seeing one now and they do run more tests than a regular ob would.  I have complete faith in my RE (even after this last loss).  I really feel they know so much more than a regular OB would.  Good Luck to you.  I really hope you can find answers.

After 1 IUI, 3 IVF's with CGH/CCS testing, 10 early miscarriages, and lots of tears and frustration, we are moving on to Domestic Infant Adoption!  We are so excited to see what the future holds.

  • I'm so sorry.  I agree with the other ladies that you should definitely see an RE.  I wasn't sure if I should or not and my OB wasn't pushing one way or another.  But since June I feel like I've accomplished more with my RE than in a year with my OB, not that it gaurantees me a good pregnancy, but it has given me so many more answers.  I hope you find someone who will be an advocate for you and push to find a solution.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  And I agree with the advice to see an RE.  I've gotten pregnant on my own, but my doc thinks I need medicine to ovulate "better".  I just think they have a different level of training and this is what they do.  I hope you can get some answers.

    ~big hugs~

  • I unfortunately don't have any advice, but wanted to say I'm thinking of you and want to give you big hugs.

  • That's such bull_shit. It really is. HSG and RPL are not the be-all, end-all. My HSG and RPL came back normal, then when I went for more in-depth testing with the RE, we discovered an extremely hamstringed ovarian reserve. Maybe the MTHFR is the only problem and this time was just bad luck. BUT MAYBE NOT.

I was not comfortable continuing on before doing all possible testing to find out why this was happening.

If you don't start bleeding and want to take misoprostol to induce the miscarriage, I have an entry in my blog about my experience wth it. I only mention that b/c the interwebz is so full of horror stories, and mine is a non-horror story.

I'm so, so sorry you're going through this again.

  • First let me say - I'm so sorry.  Secondly, I want to address your being unsure - after each of my losses I was either unsure or determined to TTC again immediately.  This is sucky, shocking, sudden news, so please allow yourself some time to mourn - but please, please, PLEASE don't stop if you're not ready.

Now, I'd encourage you to go to an RE - even if it's just for a fresh set of eyes and ideas on the issue.  Or trying to figure out what the issue is, you know?

Anyhow, I'm sorry.  We had 4 in 12 months.  It sucked.  Repeat loss is just a bastard, I don't know what else to say about it.  Still, I'm happy we kept at it.  I also wish we would've asked for a referral to an RE sooner, simply in case the RE would've had ideas to help us avoid some of our subsequent losses, you know?

  • Thank you everyone for your well wishes and advice.  I'm actually doing okay, but probably because I'm just being numb and blocking the thoughts from my mind.  I even went to work today when my DH didn't.  I feel so bad for him.  Crying  I think we are going to get away this weekend, so I hope everyone has a good labor day weekend.

  • I am so sorry hon. I would go see an RE at this point, for sure.
