Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What couldn't you live without

Okay so a little back story. My cousin is 18, he got his 16 year old girlfriend pregnant. Not the most ideal situation but it is what it is. I think their registry really sucks, 2 kids picking things out, not really knowing what life has in store for them. I want to get them something that they really can't live without...

What is the one thing or things that you couldn't have lived without for your newborn?

 Thanks

  • They are doing a diaper and wipes raffle at the shower. I thought about diapers, but I know they will get a lot of those.

Clothes in larger sizes. They'll probably get plenty in NB through 6 months or so so maybe get 12 months and larger sizes.

  • How about a swaddle blanket? We used ours tons when we had a newborn. Also, some Carters clothes. Inexpensive and nice!
  • My #1 baby item was my boppy. And I still use it everyday.

  • Clothes 9 months and up

    Bouncer

    Bottles

    Car seat

    Pack N Play

Thats all I really needed other than diapers and wipes. Somewhere for the baby to sleep, something to eat, wear and come home from the hospital in :)

  • Clothes in bigger sizes, Boppy pillow, extra pacis...and if you feel like spending a larger amount of money, I would get them a convertable car seat. My brother and his GF are/were teen parents (Brother was 16, GF was 17) and they got tons of stuff at the showers, but all of the expenses seemed to hit them at once later. Bigger clothes and a bigger carseat will really help to ease the financial burden later on.

Best of luck to them, it's not an easy situation, but it doesn't always turn out bad. I wish them the best!

  • Pack 'N Play

    Car seat

    Front carrier (moby)

I'd probably be tempted to do something like frozen meals.  That was one thing I was seriously grateful people brought me - pre-made food that I didn't need to think about.

  • My Moby and swaddle...both life savers. I give one or the other to each shower I go too LOL

SWING (OMG.. this thing was a life saver!)

    swaddle blankets

burp cloths (in the form of cloth diapers)

(and what pp said larger size clothing, blankets, swaddlers, moby(or baby carrier))

    Little E born 12.10.09 Little A born 04.19.12
  • Vibrating Bouncy Chair (life saver!)

Boppy pillow (used it for the first 6 months)

Pack N' Play (if they have room, it was nice to have it on the main floor of our house for naps, we have a 2 story house)

  • Depending how much you're going to spend... a swing is sooo useful for the first few months.

Otherwise, ditto other PPs - swaddling aids (I loved the Woombie, so easy) and clothes in larger sizes so they don't have to buy them themselves.

  • My "ItzBeen" timer.

Love it!    It keeps track of your last feeding, changing, nap/how long napped for and whatever else you can think of.  I used the misc one for the last time I pumped.  TMI, sorry.  Smile

Some people think it's a little OCD, but I love it.  Helps me keep trackso we can avoid getting fussy.

I also like my boppy pillow, very handy and I still use it today.

     Hope this helps.  Smile

How does that work? I've never been to a shower that did one.

I agree with the Boppy (still haven't packed mine away) and getting a few outfits in larger sizes. I also really appreciated the meals people brought me after J was born. You could do a home-made certificate saying you'll bring a few meals within the first few weeks.

Well whoever is throughing the shower would do it almost like a door prize. If you bring a box of diapers you get say purple raffle ticket. If you bring a box of wipes you get say green raffle tickets. Then their is a special prize for the diaper raffle winner and an special prize for the wipes winner.

Gotcha. So it's a way to encourage people to bring diapers and wipes in addition to their shower gift.
