Once we heard the heartbeat, we started officially telling people. I was at an event today and I mentioned that we were expecting to 3 people I just met (this is 3 separate convos). ALL 3 immediately looked down at my belly. Now I'm already feeling especially self conscious of my bloat and 7 add'l pounds which all seems to be in my ever expanding stomach flab. I don't know if the "glance down" was unconscious or not. But it makes me want to not tell new people and just wait until "my bump" tells people. DH says that I'm being paranoid and self-conscious, but the "glance down" bothered me!!!!!
BTW one of the people I told is 6 months pregnant and she mentioned how she misses being able to tell people. Now they just know by looking at her.
Re: The glance down...
I know exactly what you mean by "the glance down"!! I've been getting it too. Even people who have known for a few weeks will do it every time they see me! I'm sure it's a normal reaction, but I feel self conscious too! The other day my MIL commented "no bump yet"! I wanted to say, of course I don't have a bump yet... I'm only 10 weeks... the baby is the size of a prune. If I did have a bump, it would be bloat or fat, which is rude for people to comment on anyway... lol.
I know people don't mean anything by it, but it's still annoying. Especially when people who have been pregnant before do it. You'd think they would know better.
*Okay, rant over. Apparently I was more sensitive about this subject than I realized!!*
I know EXACTLY what you're talking about!! At first it was frustrating, but now I'm loving the belly spotlight. I work at a daycare so when I told the parents in my classroom that was the first thing they did. Most even mentioned that I looked the part and were wondering it among themselves (geez, thanks. I know I like those Oreo's a little too much, ok?) Just wait until the looks turn into touches. Thats even harder to get used to.
Take the 6month preg mommy's advice - you want to look the part, but actually telling people the news is so much better than them knowing at a glance. Enjoy it while you can! And love those additional 6 pounds - I know I'm loving my extra 9 (insert a quick frown lol). It makes me feel (and look, somewhat) pregnant.
