Signs he's ready?

I know DS is a bit young. But lately he has been telling me when he is poo poo (he says this for both pee and poo) and pats his crotch. Is this a sign that I should get a potty and start encouraging him? Or what would be the "signs" I should look for? TIA!

    my ds too pats his crotch lately. he says poo poo and wants TP to wipe himself. lol. But we sit on the potty and he doesn't want to stay there. I am still giving him some time. He is in school watching all his friends use the  big potty so I think he is getting more and more used to the idea. But I don't think he is quite there yet.

    Google PT readiness signs, its gives you some more info.

    Like, the may be waking up dry from naps, they may be holding pee longer, are able to pull up and down pants, etc.
