wierd skin things going on here?! HELP

I have never had eczema, or psorisis, or any other sensativity of the skin.  I haven't started using new soap or lotion or anything.  This has been creaping up my fingers for the past few weeks, I just brushed it off as dry skin and kept applying lotion, vasaline, neosporine, etc.  But I read that pregnancy can bring on eczema and other skin sensativities.

It isn't the best picture, and I'm not trying to flip anyone off, but if you have skin problems and can help me figure out what this is I'd really appreciate it.

It's very dry, between my fingers, itches like hell, hurts when I itch it, and nothing I've tried has seemed to help.  It has small bumps in spots too.  This is the worst patch.

  • It looks like eczema to me.  Have you tried Aquaphor?  I use it in the winter when my skin is so dry it cracks.  I think Aveeno is supposed to be good for eczema.  Benadryl can help with the itching, but I don't know if it is safe during pregnancy.

  • That definately looks like eczema.  I have it from time to time on my hands mostly in the winter time.  Try to keep your hands dry and try not to use hand sanitizers much as they dry your skin out really bad.  Gold Bond hand cream works wonders especially if you lather your hands up and put those moisture gloves on before you go to sleep.  Whatever you do, DO NOT scratch it!  It only makes things worse!  I hope you get some relief soon!

  • Thank you!  I will be buying that ASAP!

  • I know it's not psoriasis.  Hope it heals quickly!

  • That definitely looks like eczema! I have it on my hands, and it has gotten a tad bit worse since getting pregnant.

I use the Aveeno cream called Eczema Skincare. It is super moisturizing and helps with the itching. I don't think a doctor will be able to prescribe you anything since most prescription eczema creams contain steroids and cortizone.

  • Oh yes, pregnancy induced eczema...a joy, isn't it?

I got this with DC# 1, and it never went away, so be prepared.  I love the Aveeno creams.  In the winter, I use the skin conditioning gloves and coat my hands in vaseline overnight.  It also helps me to take off rings whenever I am around water as well as overnight.

  • Yep - I agree with everyone else. It looks like eczema. I get it on and off on my fingers, but this pregnancy has really brought it on and it's driving me nuts. I'm going to try some of the suggestions from the other ladies (I used to put  a bit of hydrocortisone cream on it in the past, which really worked well, but I don't think it's a good idea to use something steroidal while pregnant).

Good luck getting rid of it. It's a pain!

  • I've gotten this off and on for the past few years on my fingers and always wondered what it was! Good to know what it is so that if it gets bad I know what stuff to get for it. :) Luckily I haven't gotten it during my pregnancy, but there's still time. Hope yours gets better soon!
  • I agree with everyone else--- definitely eczema. I get it on my fingers sometimes, too. It's not much fun :-(
