ok so I am doing a pumping session currently and I always start on my left boob. well about 5 minutes into it I look down and everything in the bottle is pink! Like it looks like strawberry milk. So I'm assuming I'm bleeding and I do see a spot where it looks like milk was coming out and it was cracked so I'm guessing thats where it was occurring. So I switched to the other side.
Heres my question - My boob is still full, do I just pump and dump? Do I wait an hour or so and try again? Is this normal? Is it a sign of something serious? Thankfully my right boob is doing ok currently but yikes to look down and see that is scary!
TIA!
Re: Bleeding while pumping
Don't dump it!! I know it looks scary - but it really is fine. This has happened to me, and I called my LO's pedi and they said it wouldn't do her any harm - after all, if she was nursing, she would be swallowing it anyway.
I have been there, don't dump it's really ok. It takes VERY little blood to make the whole amount look pink. It's not uncommon and not at all harmful to feed to your baby. If you're nursing you could also be bleeding a little so baby is already ingesting some blood.
Be on the lookout for darker than usual stools, this can occur when baby ingests blood b/c of the extra iron but it's completely safe.
