TTC After a Loss

I hate the first tri board.

I mean, I always knew it was bad, but it is like, monumental bad.

I got in a discussion with  some ladies about medicaid, and it pretty much turned into everyone insulting me because I can pay for my own children.

If this was real life, I'd be punchin some b!tches.

    You were unreasonably rude.

I was, and I apologized to the OP (in a PM), which she ignored.

As for the other posters going on there to insult me for insulting her, well really that's being hypocritical.

  • yah, if you're in a bind and need assistance or I guess you have absolutely no way of getting insurance on your own (our country is screwed up that way), it's great that it's there.  I know someone who was laid off in her 2nd tri, it was a super scary time for her. I supported her in getting whatever kind of assistance she could.

But, to get all pissy b/c your OB doesn't take medicaid (uh, maybe you could have checked that out before you TTC w/o insurance?) and say it ruined your BFP moment.  mmmmk, time to grow the eff up.

Oh yeah, I totally agree. I know people who are on it, and I think it's a wonderful help. In fact, I'm glad we have the program for that reason! What I don't understand, is how people (I'm not talking about the OP in that post, people in general) can knowingly get pregnant when they're planning on using medicaid. Not just that, but when they're actively trying for months to get pregnant.

  • I understand what you are saying. I think there are always situations that warrant assistance--you know, for the people that it is actually created for. But when I see a bunch of FHs with their 6 kids and their food stamp cards buying $200 of junk food at the grocery store, it really chaps my azz.

  • Eh, those posts always go like that. Someone will start a leash post, or EB v. FF post, soon and they'll all jump on that one.

I don't think you were all that rude, but it's kind of pointless to get into that debate on this site in the first place.

Bottom line, she is pregnant now and needs coverage, and that was the intention of the program. I'm glad her baby will be getting pre-natal care.

And yes, she should have made sure she had insurance before TTC.

    Both points are equally true.

  • I agree with your sentiment. I have known people on TB/ TN that have gotten PG knowing that they would have to use government assistance. IMO, that's irresponsible. I'm not saying that the OP in the 1st tri post was one of them, but she didn't even address that until way later in the post.

I was behind a women at Walmart one time who has two carts full of food. Not crap either. It was fruit, veggies, and bread, and meats, and milk..etc..She also had EVERY sale paper for that weekend (walmart will price match if you have proof). It took her about 15 minutes to check out, but when her final total for two carts full of food was $60!!! I made a joke that I was going shopping with her the next weekend, she turned to me and said "Yep, I gotta feed 4 kids!"

Then she paid with food stamps. THIS is the kind of women who I don't mind helping out!! I loved her!

GOSH me too!! That's insane. I spend like $200 per shopping trip for just me and DH. I'm a terrible shopper though.

Me too!! I try to clip coupons but we don't buy much packaged food and they never have coupons for fresh fruit, veggies or meat. We spend over $700 a month on groceries. DH eats SO much.

Yeah that's just for eating at home. Seriously it's ridiculous. DH eats like a crazy amount of food. I'll give you Monday night's menu for an example (this is just what DH ate, not me):

-5 lamb chops (about 1.25 lbs total)
-1 package of mushrooms sauteed in butter with a half of an onion
    -4 zucchinis
-Spinach salad with 2 hard boiled eggs
-1 cup of Kefir mixed with orange juice and POM juice
    -20 prunes
    -10 dates
-a package of dried mango slices
    -Greek yogurt
    -A banana

He was still hungry but he stopped himself.

DH and I spend about $200 or a little more on groceries a month. We buy our meats in bulk once a month, about $60, and go once a week for other stuff, usually spending roughy $40. We maybe bring four - eight coupons with us per grocery trip and we definitely don't spend 15 minutes checking out. That would drive me crazy! Granted, DH is a chef so I'm sure that helps us cut our food costs a lot. Wink

have you seen famers markets that accept food stamps now?  I think that is the best thing ever!  I saw signs all over our downtown farmers market when I went last month.  Everyone should be able to eat fresh food!

Wow, just seeing this!!! I guess I'm the pissy one!!!  Its always great to make judgements when you don't know the person and talk about them when they likely won't read it!!!

And yeah I was pissy!  for your information I have been going to this office for the last 10 years since my first pap!  For the last 7 years while I was in college I had NO insurance and always paid in cash at the time of my appointment.  I have paid all of my medical/dental bills on my own as the only thing I could ever afford being a college student is major medical which doesn't cover regular visits.  I have now graduated with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy and am taking my licensing exam in October (Read will have job with benefits starting November).  I explained that to the office and had 2 different nurses put me on hold and come back to say "Have you even considered applying for medicaid?" This was freaking day 1!  No I hadn't considered that!  What I had considered was coming in for some blood work, confirming my pregnancy, and paying the bastards for the appointment.  Instead I was treated like crap, givin the run around, and then told my doctor wouldn't see me.

I don't have to have insurance to have a baby.  I just have to have a plan, which I do. Thanks for your interest.  next time talk to me, not about me.  Thx.
