I'm Rh negative and so is DH. I thought the fact that we are both Rh negative meant we don't have to deal with the Rhogam shot, but my doctor's office seems to just assume that everyone should get the shot (apparently as a policy they don't ask for the father's blood type, maybe because there is always a chance the baby isn't his?) In my case, there is no question. It's DH's baby. I don't want to get the shot if it's not needed. I have an appointment tomorrow and I'm going to try to find out more, but has anyone else encountered this? Thanks, ladies!
Re: Rh neg and Rhogam question
I haven't encountered this, and don't have to worry since I'm A+. It's the policy of all doctors to not really trust anything you say unfortunately. If it makes you feel any better I've been tested for Hepatitis and HIV twice this year. Routine testing at my RE's office, and routine prenatal testing. I didn't have a choice really.

I was pretty pissed when my RE insisted on giving me the Rhogam shot after my m/c. I mean - they injected my DH's sperm into my uterus - there was no chance this was anyone else's baby and they did blood work on both of us and knew we are both A-. I brought it up with my OB and mentioned how wasteful I thought it was and she agreed to skip it after this pregnancy ends.
If you feel strongly about it, stick to your guns. There's zero need for it (to my knowledge) if you and DH are both Rh negative.
ETA - and just to clarify - while my RE insisted, yes, I could have stuck it out but I just didn't have the will to discuss it while having the D&C.
My doctors office tested my husbands blood (he wasnt sure of his blood type) & said if he was negative I wouldnt need the shot. He was not negative so I still needed the shot. The shots are no big deal, you get one around 28 weeks & one when you delvier.
