You don't need both. I have the boppy and I like it because I think it's more versatile. DH and the sitter both use it when giving her bottles. She also uses it for tummy time and as support for sitting up.
I have both, and I like them for different reasons. I use the Boppy in bed, and the MBF in the rocking chair. IMO MBF gives a better position as it raises baby higher and can be tightly adjust around my waist. In the middle of the night however, I wouldn't want to try to maneuver with it so that's why I have the Boppy in bed. I also like to rest Nia on it while I get dressed and do laundry so she can watch me. The friend who gave me the MBF liked to use it in her recliner while BFing. She would tell me how she would keep the baby's nail clipper in the pocket that's attached and always use the time breastfeeding to clip her son's nails. I still haven't figured out how to do that and BF but I hope to figure it out soon! GL
LOVE our boppy and we still use it at 18 months for relaxing and playing on the floor sometimes.
I do agree with pp that it didn't work very well for nursing because Lil Miss wasn't elevated enough. Maybe has more to do with body types than product design.
If I had to choose one, all over again, I would still go with the boppy. It outlives bf'ing, and I don't know that the MBF would do the same.
I love the boppy. We have one in the living room & one in our bedroom. I use the one in our bedroom for middle of the night feedings, & I would be lost without it. I used to use it to prop my arms to hold her & sleep when we couldn't get her to sleep in the bassinet. DH uses the one in the living room as much as I do. He likes to lay her in it while she sleeps so he can also hold a book, etc. We also use it to prop her & play on the floor. It's a must-have, IMO.
I never use my boppy. I tried the MBF at the hopital and I liked it fine. I could only really get it to be comfortable when I was sitting totally upright, in a chair.
I'd rather use pillows than either of the breastfeeding aids.
