Hunger Cues

I feel like Reese has stopped giving me hunger cues. She used to play with her tongue, smack her lips, turn her head, or eat her hands. Now it seems like she hardly ever does those things, & the first hunger cue I get is crying (and since there were no other hunger cues, I'm usually looking for another problem before feeding her, esp if she has eaten recently, which obviously ends with her getting more upset). What am I missing? Is there something else I should be watching for?

    I went through this with C a few weeks ago. It drove me nuts because I hate just pushing my boob in his face every time he cries so I was relying on those cues to atleast know the difference between hunger and the rest of his fussiness. The only way I could figure it out was by giving him my finger to see if he would suck on it, but that was after he started fussing, so i am not much help about other cues before it gets to the cranky stage.

    All this time I thought briley stopped giving me hunger cues because she spent so much time hungry while I was at work. Maybe it's something babies just do! Does she root? That was the only thing B did consistently. Bless her little heart, she would sit there and suck on the boob area of my shirt until I got somewhere I could feed her, and never fuss. Now she eats her hands, or my finger, or she grabs my face and tries to eat my nose or chin.

    The rooting has been consistent for Miss K too.  Hope this passes soon for you!

    Her rooting is confusing.  Sometimes she roots when she is hungry, but she will pretty much root any time she is up on someone's chest.  Even if she just ate 5 minutes ago.  Half the time when she roots & I try to feed her, she doesn't want it.
