So I'm visiting my inlaws who live in Alexandria, VA (and work in DC.) So my MIL says she wants to take me to this maternity store in the big mall at Pentagon city. Turns out I'm not cool enough for the Pod people. Upon even entering the store I was told they "only go up to a large". And didn't you know its a "collections store", I do as I was told about a hundred times. So I find a nice black cardigan (on sale.. Thinking it was a score) and when I approached the register they told me that there was a motherhood on the next floor and they have sweaters and wouldn't I rather go there? WHAT!!! I bought the sweater cause I liked it but now I feel bad. Way to make a pregnant lady feel awesome. Fail fail fail!!
Re: A Pea in the Pod ...Fail!
I've been into two Motherhood stores and had rude assistants/cashiers at both. I'm starting to think one of the requirements for maternity store employees is tactlessness.

WTF?? First off, A Pea in the Pod isn't like a boutique super speciality pricey store...sure they are more expensive than motherhood...but so far-the only maternity clothes that I have bought that have started to fall apart-came for A Pea in the Pod. And, WTH is a "Collections Store"?
I would so call corporate and tell them about your "lovely" experience.
I thought of Pretty Woman, too.
So weird that people actually treat customers like that. I agree that you should place a complaint. I totally think Pea in a Pod is far overpriced for what it is. There are better places to buy your clothes.
Motherhood owns pea in the pod!
I just bought some stuff on sale there and our store in the mall had both motherhood and pea in the pod in the same store.
It sucks they were so rude..... I buy stuff from both but never unless pea in the pod is having a big sale. I don't find it practical to spend $78 on a T-shirt!
I agree with everyone. You need to call Corporate and complain. That is just ridiculous!!
Also, it reminded me of Pretty Woman, too.
Next time someone gets snobby with you, do it back. Or ask them if they are having a bad day. That shuts them up real quick like
NO ONE deserves to be treated like that -- pregnant, non-pregnant, big, small, whatever. I'm sorry you were treated so badly. I can't believe how tactless some people are!
I lived in the DC area for 1 1/2 years and came across a lot of rude people, but I'm from the Midwest, so I guess I'm used to laid-back folks. Interestingly, I have gone to Motherhood Maternity here in Edmonton a few times and have had good experiences with the sales staff each time.
