zofran vs. b6/unisom combo

Who has had success with either of these?

Better yet, who has tried both and found one to work better than the other?

Zofran doesn't work and I need help bad. Dr. suggested unisom/b6, but they told me zofran usually works better. Boo.

Re: zofran vs. b6/unisom combo

  • My doc suggested trying unisom/b6 first because she said it works for a lot of people. My nausea eased a little bit this week so I haven't tried it yet. Good luck!

  • sorry if this is a dumb question..but i've seen this mentioned before and was curious.. you mean unisom as in the sleeping pill right? when are you taking this? aren't  you sleepy all day if you take in the AM? I've taken unisom in the past (pre-pg) and it knocks me right out!
  • I haven't tried the unisom, as I'd like to run it by my dr first, but the zofran doesn't work for me, either.  I have another appt Friday so I'm going to talk to him about it then.

  • I've been taking one zofran a day (two if I'm really bad) for about 3.5 weeks. It helps; I kept food down and had a slightly better appetite most days; but it also has side effects. The headaches have gotten out of control for me.

Also, mornings have been really tough for me lately because I'm working earlier than usual. For some reason I throw up everything I eat or drink before about noon. So, I'm trying Unisom and B6 tonight for the first time, hoping it'll make my morning easier. I'll page you tomorrow and let you know how it worked out. :)

My dr. suggested the unisom/b6 combo. I am not sure how or why it works, but I guess you take unisom at night before bed and then b6 in the morning??? Doesn't sound too promising to me, but it might be worth a try.

  • I've been doing the combo for the past few days and it has helped tremendously! You have to make sure to get the tablet form, the other onedoesnt have the ingredient in it. I take it at night, helps me get a good nights sleep as well!

  • I do the unisom/b6 combo. I take 1/2 a unisom and 50 mg of B6 before bed. I wasn't sure if it was really working until the other night when I forgot to take it. The next day I felt miserable ALL DAY.

I should mention that I haven't been vomiting though, just dealing with nausea. I still do feel nauseous at times, even with the B6 and unisom, but it doesn't interfere with my life as much. It has also seemed to really reduce the gaggy feeling.

  • With DS I was on Zofran basically my entire pregnancy and felt that it really worked well. Did they try upping the dosage of Zofran for you?

  • I haven't tried zofran, but the b6/unisom combo is working for me.  I take unisom like two hours before bed (it does not knock me out though) and 25 mg b6 with each meal.

  • I just have to say I'm so thankful you posted this question.  I'm not any help with your question, but I have been taking Zofran and it's not helping me.  I'm wearing SeaBands also.  It has been really bad the last several days (today, everything has made me gag, I even had to turn off what I was listening to b/c the topic made me gag).  Really want to try the Unisom/B6 now.

I do have a question re: Zofran - though, I'll post it in a separate thread.  Thank you again for posting this - I hope you feel better ASAP!!!

  • In addition to the b6/unisom, my dr. also recommended 50mg of Dramimine (which is usually used for motion sickness) Maybe that would work for you? The Zofran has been working great for me personally - I find it works best when I take it with a little bit of food (like a piece of toast)
