Recommend your monitors!

I registered for the Summer Infant Slim & Secure Color hand held monitor. Reviews are soo mixed, alot of good ones but the few negative ones scare me. I just need your opinions. What do you love about your monitor & why?

  • We have the Safety 1st High-Def Digital Video Monitor and we really like it.  I don't have any complaints at all.  I like that I can carry the hand held monitor around the house.  The zoom/pan feature and night vision work great.  I really liked being able to see her in the middle of the night when we transitioned her to the crib.

I don't use it much anymore now that dd is a toddler unless she's napping or sleeping and we're outside. I actually don't even turn it on unless I hear her at night and want to see what she's doing.

  • I got the Angelcare Deluxe Movement Monitor based on reviews in magazines, online, and talking to a few new mommies.

We tested it out and it all appears to work great!  We can't wait til our lil one is here!

  • Make sure your Summer monitor is a digital one, and has an internal rechargeable battery! We had a non-digital one (900 MHz?) and it was so staticky it was unbearable, plus we ran through a set of batteries every few days, even though it was only running on batteries in the evening before we went to bed. We just got a digital one and it's so much better.

I agree that a video monitor isn't so necessary for infants. Once they start standing and climbing though, and/or if you're using the cry-it-out method for sleep training an older baby/toddler, it's really useful. You can see if they're clmbing out of the crib, if they throw up, kick off their blankets, etc.

We've gone through 4 monitors in 2 years with DS -- the first three crapped out. So that's one item I actually would consider getting an extended warranty on, if you get a more expensive monitor. And make sure to save your receipts for all your baby gear so the manufacturer will actually honor their own warranty.

We have had one with our past 2 babies and I have to say, DITTO. We have the same one from DD and will use it again this time. I can't handle the sound monitor because every wheeze, sigh, or cough kept me wide awake. The baby's room is right next to mine, so if he/she wakes up crying I can quickly attend to the baby. And the mat turned on is the perfect security for me, my DS had a very hard time remembering to breathe and actually stopped breathing quite a few times. If we'd had a regular sound monitor, we would have never known and he may not be here with us today. It saved his life and I can't do without it.

  • We have the Summer Infant Best View and it's digital.  It has a pan and zoom feature and we just love it.
