LO WILL NOT take milk from anything but a bottle

What can I do?  I keep trying different cups but he takes a drink then lets it run down his chin with a look on his face like he's been duped.  I've been trying for over a month now.

 Anyone else overcome this?  How?

  • If you LO is only 1 I would not worry about it for a while. Just keep trying and one day he will get it... but until then a bottle is fine, IMO.

DD would not take a bottle ever, I BF until she was 14 months old and the switch to the cup was hard at first. So I put juice in a sippy and she LOVED it and I have never had a problem since.  I think she just needed something new to try and then the cup was the coolest thing ever.

  • The only thing you can do is keep trying.  My DS is 14 months old and still drinking 2 bottles/day.  He WILL drink milk from a sippy now - but not much...only 2-3 ounces at a time (if that).  He used to let the milk run down his chin too...but that has stopped.  THANK GOD!!!  =)

I wouldn't worry too much about the bottle thing....I was freaking out right after DS turned 1 and still wanted his bottle....but not every baby is ready to give it up at 12 months.

  • Your ds is adorable and I love his mohawk!! I wouldn't worry about it either. My dd will occasionally take cold milk out of a sippy cup just fine, even at dc. Other times, she wants nothing to do with it. Keep trying!! GL

  • Keep trying but don't make a big deal out of it.  Just offer the cup with every meal.  He'll be more likely to take it if you don't pressure him.  Also trying water or juice in the cup first might help.
  • DD still prefers her milk in a bottle.  She will drink water out of her sippy just fine since she was 6 months old.  We keep offering the milk in the sippy at meals and she does take 4-5 sips but that is it. Keep trying!
  • I think that's a pretty common problem. So common that we have the same issue, my mom says I was drinking from a bottle past 2 years old and I have many friends who have children that drink from a bottle almost til they're 3!!!

DS was taking 4 bottles a day but now I've cut back to one in the morning and one at night and I give him milk during the day in a Nuby bottle that doesn't spill. He doesn't quite like those yet but at least I can give it to him and let it be. If he doesn't drink he doesn't drink. He'll take water and juice from his sport bottle but not milk. And forget the sippy cups, he doesn't like those yet either. I have all sorts of bottles and sippys in the kitchen and LO is so picky. I want to ditch the Dr Browns bottles but he keeps refusing all other bottles except those!!!! I am soooo sick of cleaning Dr B bottles :p
