First u/s- did not go as well as I would have hoped...

Just got back from my 1st u/s. They did a transvaginal.

I am only measuring 5 weeks 6 days. This in itself is not a huge concern since I could have ovulated late and the dates we had sex totally match up with this dating.

Since it is so early, they couldn't see much. There was a heartbeat but it wasn't as strong as they wanted. They got it at 97 bpm and then again at 80 something.......they said it is so early that the heart could have just started to beat today.

So I go back in 2 weeks for another ultrasound. I am on pelvic rest until then. No sex. Oh, and my doc said I should probably skip the gym for peace of mind.

    I'm no doctor, but if you are really that early then that makes sense.  The heartbeat may have *just* started.  Hang in there!

    I had an ultrasound at 5w6d as well. I was under the care of an infertility specialist though so I knew he did ultrasounds this early half a dozen times a day. He said not to expect to see a heartbeat and if we did he wouldn't measure it since it wouldn't tell us anything. (We did end up seeing 2 heartbeats!) Heartbeats start right around 6w exactly so odds are it just started and for just starting those are perfectly normal ranges! At my 8w ultrasound we saw 2 perfectly strong heartbeats so have hope!

    How far back did this push you? How far along were you by LMP?

    Maybe I missed your OP--but are you at high risk that they would say pelvic rest?  Why were they doing an u/s so early?  I'm just curious--but it's so promising that you saw hb's so early too!  That's great.

    Based on my LMP, I should have been 7 weeks 1 day today. (I already changed my ticker- sorry!). I wasn't charting so I don't know when I ovulated but I didn't get a positive HPT until cycle day 33 which makes sense if I O'ed on cycle day 20.

    I was going in for my dating/viability ultrasound that they do between 6 and 8 weeks at my doc.

    I am not high risk but my doctor said that I should refrain from sex until after my next u/s.

    I just got back from my 8wk appt with a similar report - only measuring 6w6d. I'm 99% sure that my dates are right, so i was pretty disappointed. We did see a heartbeat and dr said everything looked "normal" for the date i was measuring (in other words, looked perfect for 6w6d, but measuring behind based on the dates I gave them). Soo, my dr said same as yours - come back in 2 weeks - this 2ww could be harder than the first one! Good luck to you!

    That all sounds like good news to me! That hb is fine for your new dating. I hope your next u/s gives you more assurance that the new dating is correct and that things are on track.
