Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Please help calm me down!

I posted last night that out of the blue our Day care took me aside and mentioned to me about Early Intervention for DS. DS rolled over late about 10-11months old, recently started sitting up from laying down position and still prefers to roll over the house than cruising. Also sometimes he keeps food in his mouth and starts drooling and does not like to eat. At other times, he eats like a champ.

I put in a call for EI and left them a message but they say it takes upto 2 days to get a call back. I am worrying myself reading stuff on the internet and becoming a nervous wreck. I pray to God that everything turns out ok with DS.

I am reading about hypotonia, celebral palsy, floppy baby syndrom, autism and what not and it is driving me crazy. It looks like all the above disorders have pretty much same symptoms in babies this young and I cannot help but self diagnose DS.

Please help me calm down and put some sense into my brain...I just cannot wait to get DS evaluated....

  • What has your pedi said at his well baby visits?

What has your pedi said at his well baby visits?

At his 1 year visit (which happened when he was almost 13 months old), we mentioned our concerns to our pedi and she didn't seem concerned. We talked to her about how DS doesn't pull up to stand, does not sit up from laying down position, does not like some textures of food and he holds it in his mouth etc. Pedi didn't seem concerned, she said they would re evaluate at 15 months.

However since the visit just like a switch was turned on, DS started pulling himself up on furniture, cruising , sitting up on his own from laying down position etc. He babbles a lot and repeats many words we say. he waves bye bye, he gives hi-fi but there are other times when he floppy and doesn't like to stand up..all he wants to do is just roll around in the house.

    It's just mighty confusing!

  • U can drive yourself crazy with the internet (I do it of course). My 22 month old DD has low tone and still doesnt go into sitting herself (but she's starting to cruise...we're just out of order here). I think you'll feel better after the evaluation...it sounds like he's already it some milestones, even if a little late!
  • The internet will drive you crazy, just try not to let it.  There is so much false info out there and so much stuff that there is like 1 in a million chance your DC has.  My advice stay off google and let the pedi and professionals handle it.  GL!
