So, almost everything Deadbeat does (picks up DS late because he wanted to spend more time with homewrecker, drops DS off late, takes me to court for 50/50 custody but struggles to find the time to spend 5 hours per week with DS, has me undergoing a custody evaluation, feeds DS gross food, says something mean, etc.) upsets me. I try and I try and I try to be above it, but it doesn't always work. What are your tricks for biting your tongue?
I used to struggle with this, it was a different sort of situation. SD used to say things like "YOU were the one who wanted to end our marriage, YOU just wanted to be single, blah, blah". It used to infuriate me and it sucked me into a long drawn out conversation/argument with him. I spoke to my counselor about it and she said to simply say, "yes, Douche, you are right". I tried it and it worked, basically by shutting down the conversation.
By rising above the situation is very hard. But if you don't, then you are giving up your power, and giving it over to them. I have thought about this a lot and it's best to just be the bigger person. Take a deep breathe, count to ten, picture secretly throwing darts at his face, whatever you have to do, do it. Take yourself to a happy place!
