  Sorry about your job   not sure if you have your crib yet, but Walmart offers a bundle package with the crib & mattress.  DH and I just purchased this one:

  Walmart carries this foam mattress and it gets pretty good reviews:

  I would try to stay with a foam mattress. You have to lift the mattress out of the crib to change the sheets and when the mattress is at lowest level of crib, a coil mattress is really heavy to drag out!

  I got a brand new foam crib mattress from Once Upon a Child for $50. They had an entire wall of them still sealed in the plastic from the factory.
