My daughter is almost four, and I find her constantly sneaking food. Cereal and snacks are in the lazy susan, and I don't really have another option to put them elsewhere. She has three solid meals, plus two snacks through the day, and her juice cups are usually about 75% water or more, and a little juice, and she gets several cups a day. She will just finish eating and complain she is hungry 20 minutes later. When I tell her she has to wait till snack time, she sneaks food from the cereal boxes, or the cracker boxes. I don't want to over-feed her, but I am not sure what to do to make her understand she can't just get food whenever she wants, but she has to ask, and if we say no (like 20 minutes before dinner), she has to wait.
Any advice would be appreciated. I am having so many behavioral problems with her lately, and this is only the tip of the iceberg, but a starting point. I'm not sure if I'm just a lousy parent, or if others have been or are going through it and can lend me some advice.
Re: 4 year sneaking food
I most definitely would find another place for them, even if it's inconvenient. If your kitchen is absolutely full, then use the hall closet or whatever.
Maybe you could make some sort of chart showing her the meals/snacks of the day and she can put a sticker over them as the day progresses.
For my DD, "I'm hungry" and "I'm cold" are always her "I'm bored" words. It's very annoying and I'm sure that if she had access to the pantry on her bad days, she'd be in it all the time. When she was much younger, I actually put a baby lock on the pantry because she was getting into it constantly (not eating, but hurting herself with falling cans and trying to climb the shelves).
