Baby Blessing

Long story short - Jason & I are not religious, we don't attend church and the idea of a baptism feels "silly" to us because of our lack of church attendance.

Today I read about a Baby Blessing which is:

In the past decade, baby blessings ? which can be an alternative to a traditional baptism or christening ? have become more popular among couples of different faiths and those who may not have ties to a church. One benefit, say families, is that they can be tailored to exactly reflect the parent?s wishes ? and help quell family requests for a church welcoming.

It's a pledge to love the child, help guide the child through life down his/her own path.

I love this idea - has anyone ever done this or attended one?

Re: Baby Blessing

  • Wow i've never heard of that.  I'm not religeous either but my hubby was raised catholic, so he ended up baptizing little one.

  • LOVE this!  Thanks for posting!  Neither DH nor I are religious, but I've always wanted to do SOMETHING just didn't know what/how- this is perfect.
  • I really like that!  I know my parents did a "dedication ceremony" for me when I was born.  Not really sure what that means but could be another option.
  • I think that this is a very sweet idea. :)  Would you just have a small blessing party at your home?

  • My brother did something similar to this with my niece. I think they also called it a dedication.

His college roommate was a pastor, so he said a few words. It was in my parents' living room and not too religious.

    I think it's a great idea--the blessing.
