My husband and I lost our first baby 3 months ago (baby was 8 weeks). Well we are trying again. I got pregnant right away last time so I'm hoping for the same results:) When I had my m/c, the doctor told me that they would monitor closely during my next pregnancy. I'm just wondering how they do that. Is it simply blood test more often?
Re: 1st pregnancy after a m/c
So sorry for your loss! :::HUGS::: Welcome to the board.
As for your question, maybe should ask the girls over at PgAL. We're all still trying and haven't made it that far yet.
Good luck. Hope you get your sticky baby soon!

Give your dr a call and ask them. Depending on the reason for your previous loss, or whatever they may have found by testing you, this will affect how they will "monitor you more closely".
I'm sorry for your loss, but hope you enjoy your stay on this board while you are TTC!

I'm so sorry for your loss - hugs!
With an early loss, there is not a whole lot that they can do. They can bring you in for early beta tests, to verify that your hCG (pregnancy horomone) is doubling every 48-72 hours, which it should in a healthy pregnancy. They can also check your progesterone level to ensure that it is adequate, and if not start you on progesterone supplements. Around 6 weeks they can also do an ultrasound to detect fetal development.
That's the plan of attack for me next-go-round, anyway

Wow... I definitely did not know that. I thought you just went off of your first day of the last period. and being that this last period lasted so long, i thought it was time to try. Thank you for telling me that.
And yes the bleeding did stop thank goodness. Sunday night it began to slow and by Monday it was gone. Thanks for asking
Sorry. I'm new to this posting thinga nd i thought i was replying directly to certain posts.
When I went in for my very first Doctors appointment, she told me my HCG level was extremely low. The way she phrased it was ' you may not even be pregnant' which really upset me, but we did do follow up blood work and the numbers were doubling as they should have been but then the numbers crashed.
I have left that Dr. and plan on going to a new one with my next pregnancy. It was such a traumatic experience and unfortunately my Dr. was not supportive or sympathetic at all.
I wasn't sure if there was more 'monitoring' that could be done besides the blood work.
I became pregnant with DS my first cycle after my first m/c. I was monitored more closely, but it wasn't because of the m/c. It just happened that way because of the circumstances of the pregnancy. I had my beta checked three times, which is the reason that I was monitored more closely in the first trimester. The doctor thought my numbers were low, even though they were doubling appropriately. I received an u/s at 5w4d, 7w5d, and 11w3d.
My RE told me that he would monitored me through the first trimester as well with any future pregnancies. (It doesn't matter now because we moved to another state.) He told me he would do at least three rounds of blood tests, and he would give me weekly u/s from 6-12 weeks. He told me he wouldn't release me to an OB until after my first trimester was over. He said more than anything, it will be to ease my mind.
This. Also what my Dr. suggested for the next pregnancy - fingers crossed there is one (my loss was around 8 weeks).

Motherhood is not for wimps
After our 2nd m/c, it took 2 cycles of TTC to get pregnant again. As far as monitoring more closely, that really depends on your doctor.
After my 1st m/c, my doctor sent me for blood just once (until later, when he couldn't find a heartbeat). However, he did do an ultrasound at every appointment (which was every 2 weeks). Sadly, that pregnancy also ended in m/c at 9 weeks.
This time around, he will probably do exactly the same, unless I ask for more betas (just for my own peace of mind).
That said, good luck TTC!
I never held you, but I always loved you.
