Carseat Question

Have any of you used the infant carseat without the base? Just with the seatbelt?

We are going to FL in 2 weeks and I am trying to decide if we need to take the base as well... and if we do take it, do we just check it at the door of the plane attached to the seat?

Re: Carseat Question

  • Yep, we've used it with just the seatbelt when we were in Dallas at the beginning of the month. I also use just a seatbelt if I'm going with a friend to the mall, etc. so we can take one car. It works just fine.

Don't know about checking it attached to the seat, but that sounds like a good idea.

  • I've used it without the base.  You just have to pull the seat belt all the way out, so it locks the car seat into place, when it retracts (hope that makes sense).

Did you buy your LO a seat on the airplane?  If you didn't, I'd check the car seat at the ticket counter.  If you are using a snap n go or travel system, you could plane side check it.  Personally, I think that it's easier to check it at the counter and use the Ergo to carry DD around the airport.

When traveling with a car seat, I bring the base.  I never use it though.  In "strange" cars, I can get a more secure/level fit without the base.

  • We've used it many times without the base and it's worked out just fine.  It's very easy to do.

  • We didn't try using ours without the base.  When we flew we bought one of those gate check bags for the carseat, attached the base to the seat, and put both in the bag to be checked.  I would think there wouldn't be a problem attaching the base to the seat.  I personally wanted the base because the base has an adjustment foot so I knew we could get it install in the IL's van without needing a towel or pool noodle and since they were picking us up and an airport a few hours from their house this was important to me.
