I started to take 200 mg of prometrium orally this cycle 1x day. At 8dpo I started spotting a lot. I called the nurse and she said it can be normal, but if I wanted I could take it vaginally instead. So, I did and the spotting stopped. But now I am getting discharge that I am assuming means I have a yeast infection. I have never had a yeast infection before in my life and I always wash my hands before inserting the prometrium.
Can prometrium give you a yeast infection? And I am assuming that I will just get a yeast infection every month if I use the progesterone vaginally, so I guess another call to my doctor is in order. Sorry for asking you ladies, but you always give me good information.
Re: Did prometrium give anyone a yeast infection?
This is a bit tricky - on the one hand, can you get a yeast infection from doing this? Absolutely, but I get a yeast infection at the drop of a hat and have to be on probiotics constantly to try and head them off. Normal people probably shouldn't be getting a yeast infection EVERY TIME they do suppositories.
On the other hand, inserting progesterone vaginally will leave you with abnormal discharge. Some of the progesterone, mixed with your own secretions, etc. I just wear a liner when I'm using the suppositories (personal fav is Carefree extra long if anyone cares), but then again I usually wear a liner to deal with discharge.

If it's just discharge (which for yeast infections is clumpy and white like cottage cheese... which looks just like progesterone that didn't absorb) and no discomfort, I would say probably not a yeast infection. I'm always miserable with discomfort when I have a yeast infection and there's some burning sensation.
Sorry no one warned you about it before. :-(
