Pregnant after a Loss

I can no longer sleep at night :(

I hate complaining, HATE it, because I feel like after having a loss I should be so thankful for every second of a healthy pregnancy.

I am so tired and my back hurts so bad. I am only 31 weeks and I cannot sleep anymore because whichever side I lay on my hip hurts, my lower back hurts, and I tried laying on my back last night but the pain from my tummy being so heavy and stretching hurt really bad so I went back on my side.

My lower back is in constant pain, like right now its hard to sit at my desk. I know I can take tylenol but I have such bad memories from my miscarriage associated with it, I don't want to take any.

I am going to keep heating it at night and we actually are getting a pool installed right now (heaven!) so I am going to float in that every day when it's finished so hopefully that helps things!

Whew, only 9 more weeks :)

Thanks for listening to me vent a minute.

  • I feel your pain, except it's my upper back that hurts.  I know what you mean about trying not to complain, too.  But I hurt so bad last night between the back pain, heartburn, headache, exhaustion...  I know.

My ob suggested trying physical therapy to see if they can offer any stretches or exercises that would help.  My first evaluation appt is in just over an hour... I'm really hoping they can help.

  • Do you have a recliner that you can try?  That might help.....
  • Can I make a few suggestions?

1). Consider ice not heat.  Or, at the very least, consider varying between ice and heat.  Inflammation is likely causing your pain and that's not helped by heating.

2). Do you sleep with a pillow between your knees?  If not, consider it.  Consider, in fact, sleeping with one between your knees and one behind you that you sort of lean back on, so you're neither on your side NOR your back, if that makes sense, but wedged somewhere in between.

3). Do you have and regularly wear a belly brace/hip brace?  If not, please, oh please, consider getting one.

I think that's it.  I'm not sleeping now either, but it's not from the pain, it's from something else (which is a step up!).  Since I started icing, sleeping with a pillow, and wearing my brace, life has gotten SO.MUCH.BETTER.

  • Right there with you on not feeling right about complaining.  But, it is getting tough!  My feet hurt, the heartburn is killing me, I get up at least 4 times a night to pee and I'm tired - so tired!

The good news is, we are only this uncomfortable because our LOs are getting bigger and stronger and soon they will be outside babies and no longer sitting on our bladders or beating us from the inside out.

  • I'm sorry you are so uncomfortable!  I know what you mean about the complaining though - but I think we all know that being pg isn't all P&R all the time.  Even though we are overjoyed to be here and would do it even if it meant more extreme discomfort than we already experience, that doesn't mean don't feel like crap every once in a while.

  • I'm with you lady!  I haven't slept well in over a week.  My back and hips are in agony some nights.  But we're so close...at least there's a finish line...
