TTC After a Loss

Temping question for ppl who wake up throughout the night

I have a tendency to wake up a couple of times a night for MAYBE 30 seconds to a minute or so. Usually because a dog has stepped on me or landed on me (big dogs). I go right back to sleep and rarely stay awake, unless it's fairly close to 6:30 am, which happens every once and a while.

So  if I wake up at say, 4:30 or 5:00am and this happens, where I'm just awake for a minute, would you temp and count that? Or just wait until the 6:30 alarm??

Re: Temping question for ppl who wake up throughout the night

  • I would just wait.  I had trouble for a long time, but now I try to temp only if I feel like I'm not going to be able to get back to sleep.  If you're only up for a minute or so I would think you should wait.  You can always try it and see what kind of pattern you're getting.  GL!

  • I wake up almost every night to pee, at least once, sometimes twice, often an hour or two before my alarm goes off. I still wait to temp when I wake up with the alarm. I have always had clear thermal shifts even doing this. I know it's not perfect but I don't know how else to do it without really inconveniencing myself. I figure, it's just charting, it's not like my health depends on getting perfectly accurate temps every single day.

If you just wake up and don't get up out of bed, I'm sure you aren't affected at all.

  • I usually do it when I wake up. I don't do it before because I rarely get up at night unless I'm dehydrated and need water. I almost always wait until 8am Smile

  • I always wake up in the middle of the night a couple of times. I rarely get the three hours of sleep before I temp. I will usually wake up around 5ish to pee and then go back to sleep, wake up at 6:30 (the time the alarm is set) and temp then.

So far, it hasn't really messed up my temps.

    This is what I do:

If I wake up and move around (i.e. get out of bed) and I know I'm going to get three more hours of sleep, I go back to sleep. If I wake up and I won't get three more hours of sleep, I temp. If I'm not sure, I temp, but then discard that temp if I do get three more hours.

If I just wake up and move around, but don't actually get out of bed or anything, then I wait until my normal temping time.

    Pretty much exactly this.

This is pretty much what I do too. I wake up a lot throughout the night most nights, and most mornings my cats have tried to get me up every 15-25 mins starting around 4:30 - so I'm in and out of sleep from 4:30 to about 6:15 or so when I decide I'm really awake and I temp. Again, not perfect, but I've never had a problem seeing a thermal shift in my charts.

I figure it's better to try and temp around the same time each morning, than temp when I'm half awake in the middle of the night, because the cat decided to jump on my head ;)
