I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
Oh, AG! Mine hurt like hellfire!!! It hurt during AND after.
When people come on here to ask if it hurts, I'm always silent because I know no one would go if I told the truth...or because it doesn't hurt everyone, they'd think I was crazy.
The silver lining in my HSG is I got pg after. Now we all know that wasn't a successful pregnancy, but the fact remains that it's common for women to get pg after an HSG. I hope you do, and it's a very boring pregnancy and an H&H 9 months!
(((hugs))) and lots of ibuprofen and heating pad!!!
Why would they have to dilate her? She wasn't giving birth. For HSGs, they insert dye (usually bedadine or iodine) into the Ute and the tubes so that they can get a clear picture of what is inside.
I am sorry it was painful for her, but I am hopeful that her tubes are ok.

you are correct, but to get that contrast up there they dialate her cervix and then they can put the contrast up there, your cervix is usually closed, how would they get it up there otherwise? I've done the xray part of the exam many many times.

In most HSG's there is no need to dilate as there is a small opening in the cervix that they use to put the dye into. "Either a soft, thin catheter is placed through the cervical opening into
the uterine cavity or an instrument called a tenaculum is placed on the
cervix and then a narrow metal cannula is inserted through the cervical
opening."
