s/o potty updates - EC/PL Moms of Boys

Ari has decided he'd rather stand up to pee. Okay great, right? Yeah notsomuch - he will not pee in the potty while standing, only on the floor. Plus he gets really annoyed about wearing a diaper now, & the 2nd he wets it he freaks out. Kiddo just really digs peeing on the floor.

We've tried standing him up on the big potty & having him stand next to his little potty. He gets total stage fright, then pees within seconds of running off.

Is there any way to deal with this or just let it pass?

  • How about letting him pee in the tub?  I don't have any other advice since I have a DD who is still on a potty pause!  3 weeks so far...can I blame this on the teething and walking, too?

  • Ari has been back & forth on potty pauses since 11.5 months or so. Some days we're almost all catches, then the next he'll sign potty but refuse to use it, then the next he won't sign for it @ all.

I think the walking thing does bring about pauses for sure. I think I'll try the peeing in the tub thing, good suggestion.

  • Could you try holding a diaper in front of him and letting him pee onto it? Or maybe put something in the potty so it's "fun" to pee in there- like some blue food coloring so it turns green when he goes. DS hasn't gone through this phase so I can't offer experience.

  • I could have written this post!  Trevor for a long time would not sit down on the potty.  He would stand right next to it and pee, or pee in the corner and then tell me "potty" and show me which corner he went into.  He has gotten past it though to a point, and will actually sit down on the potty.  He still likes peeing in the corner though.  He's usually naked (he's hating diapers), so it's really hard to stop it.

  • Oh wow, the things you don't Think about when you only have a DD. :-) I remember my brother being taught to aim using cheerios. I would probably put down some puppy puddle pads to cut down on clean up.

  • Where do you ladies learn about EC or early PL? I'm interested! DS is only 7.5 months old, but I could start doing research now, right?

    Thanks!
