Babies: 9 - 12 Months

In need of some decorating advice.

I want to paint an accent wall in my living room. We just moved and the living room has vaulted ceilings and one wall is huge and feels so blah. I'm not really all that creative and could use some advice on what color would go good. Every thing is very neutral right now. Chocolate brown sectional, white walls, browns/tans/black modern type pattern rug. Just very neutral.

So what color do you think I should use? I'm not afraid of darker colors so no need to keep it "safe". Any advice would be appreciated. TIA

  • Coming out from lurking....

I would start by looking in your closet and seeing what colors you wear most and are attracted to. That is a good starting point.

  • sounds like the new Design Stars show.. lol. It is a good idea.

There are a lot of colors that go with Choc brown. Shades of Green/sage, blue or Red. Depends on what your preference is. What color you like. Is it open to any other rooms.. what colors are in there?

There isn't really one color I favor. I like bold colors the most but again I don't really favor a certain color.

lol. It is open to the kitchen. I'm thinking of painting a red accent wall in the kitchen because I've always wanted to do that but I'd like to give each room there own identity to kind of make them feel a little more separated.

  • It sounds like you are up for anything so I would check out Sherwin Williams site and upload a photo of your room and try different colors out.

  • If you're wanting to do a red accent wall in the kitchen, I would keep the living room more neutral.  Probably a chocolate brown accent wall with beige walls surrounding, and then accent the room with reds (red pillows, throw blankets, drapes, etc).  I've done something similar with all the rooms on my main floor, basically it's all golds, reds, browns and beiges but every room is a little different.  There's some old pis on my nest bio if you want to take a look, I can't remember if there's still a link in my siggy or not...

  • Is there a picture you are hanging in that room?  Maybe use a color from that for the accent wall.
  • I would do a rich mocha colored accent wall.
