Splat Mat

Does anyone have a splat mat for under your LO's high chair or some other kind of high chair mat?  I saw that some are disposable but I think I would prefer one that can just be cleaned.

Re: Splat Mat

  • Yep we use one. I just went to our local craft store and had them cut me a couple yards of thick vinyl. I don't leave it out though. It stays in our pantry and put it down during mealtimes.

  • I always just cleaned up the floor and skipped a mat.  I feel like the spills and messes would never really be contained and then you are stuck cleaning 2 different things on the floor.  Or you could do what I do..... let my dogs do the cleaning Wink  Works much better than my big pregnant self cleaning the floor.  I have a swiffer vac. that I am constantly using and a shark mop, and they both do the job.
  • I was thinking that it might be a big waste because I will have to clean it instead of the floor but I think it would still be easier to pick it up and shake it off than to bend down and do it.  The fabric store is a great idea, I'm sure it's more cost effective and I won't feel as bad if I end up not using it.
  • We have one because we have carpet in our kitchen (which I HATE, but we rent so we can't change it). If we had a more cleanable floor, I would skip the splat mat but for us it's been really helpful.

  • this is me coming out of lurking for months (see siggy pic from ages ago!) to recommend a shower curtain as a splat mat.  It's super cheap (like a few bucks at walmart) and does the same thing.  GL!
  • I have and love it!  I got mine from modernjune on etsy.

  • I highly 2nd using a shower curtain or liner.  Preferably a washable one.  I use a nylon shower curtain so it's water resistant so messes/spill don't automatically just soak through to the floor anyway, I can shake it off outside, and then pop it in the washing machine since it's washable and lightweight and flexible.  Works great and covers soo much area around the high chair.  The disposable splat mats from the table topper company are a joke because they practically only cover the area of floor directly underneath the highchair.  Which so doesn't help much because the majority of food and spills reach outward around the highchair.   Table Topper's placemats, however, are amazing.  Just wish they'd realize floor mats need to cover much more floor around chairs and highchairs.
