hey all-
So 4 weeks ago I went for the anatomy scan and my little boy measured 19 weeks 3 days instead of 20 weeks 2 days. When I went for the next doctors check up the nurse practitioner who I saw told me to get a fetal growth ultrasound 4 weeks from the last one, just to make sure the growth was on par. Otherwise, everything looked very healthy.
So I go today and the baby is only measuring 22 weeks and 5 days. In 4 weeks, it had only grown 3 weeks and 2 days. There is no on-site doctor so I need to wait till my doctor gets the results tomorrow to talk to a doctor about it.
Obviously, I am freaking out. My baby is super active, and seems healthy, but everyone comments on how "tiny" I still am. When I googled "how accurate is ultrasound dating" I found a Medscape article that states that past 20 weeks, ultrasound dating can be off up to 8-10 days and isn't a very accurate form of dating at the point.
Has anyone gone through something similar? Does this just mean that I'll have a smaller 6 lbs baby than a 10 lb baby? I know that no one here is a doctor, I am just looking for ppl with similar experiences till I can talk to my doc tomorrow. ![]()
Re: ultrasound dating... and stress
After the 1st Trimester, dating is kinda off because your baby grows at different rates by then. You could just have a baby that hasn't hit the growth spurt yet. LO might not hit one until you get into the 3rd Trimester.
At my sisters 20 week her LO measured almost 2 weeks ahead but by her 31 week she was back on target.
At my first appt, they gave me a due date based on my last period. The ultrasound had me further ahead. Depending on who I see in the office depends on which one they are going off of. Some are determined to go off of my last cycle- which doesn't make sense becuase I was irregular- and then others go off of the first US.
Especially at this point, I don't think the US are completely accurate. Every baby is different too. Your baby, like mentioned above, may have just not gone through a growth spurt yet. It may also depend on you and your SO builds- if you're smaller, maybe that has something to do with baby being smaller. I don't know, I'm just brainstorming. The numbers that they give are just estimates. They aren't necessarily exactly what your baby is going to be.
