So, I'm 5 weeks pregnant and I'm still waiting for morning sickness to hit me. I read something that said some people don't get it. I've also read that the sicker you get the healthier the baby. Old wives tales, I tell ya ![]()
So, for those of you who have been hit with the dreaded morning sickness, what does it feel like? Flu? I have a friend who said Malaria (yes she's had Malaria)
I've had waves of feeling hungry. Not wanting food, but feeling like my tummy is super empty and I know it's not. Is this MS? Cause I can deal with that ![]()
Just trying to get an idea. And my heart breaks for all of you who are sick now! I can't wait...er, imagine!
Re: Morning Sickness
I felt great at 5 weeks.
Then week 6 hit.
Believe me, you'll know it when and if it hits you.
I am 6 weeks along and still no "official" morning sickness.

With my first pregnancy it felt like I had a hung over.
The room would start to spin and I would feel really nauseous.
Some days I would also have a headache along with the spinning and nausea. Not fun.
But lucky for me, my morning sickness used to start at 5PM sharp when I was about to get off of work and only last for 3 weeks.
Hopefully you dont have morning sickness.
Hopefully you won't get it at all!
It hit me at 6 weeks, too.
I think it feels different for everyone, but for me, it does not feel like the stomach flu or food poisoning or anything like that. Then again, I'm not vomiting (so far anyway), just feeling nauseous. So maybe it feels more flu-like for the people who actually throw up.
My morning sickness mostly feels like a gagging-feeling. When I smell certain smells, open the fridge or even think about something gross, I start to gag. Sometimes I even gag when I cough. It's like the kind of feeling that you might throw up, and you have to take deep breaths and convince yourself not to.
The other part of my morning sickness is the empty-stomach feeling. If my stomach gets too empty, I start feeling nauseous. Lately I'll feel hungry first, but if I don't eat, the feeling turns to nausea.
I know it's different for everyone, but I've found that deep breaths, drinking something cold (or hot tea works too), and sucking hard candies works for the gagging feeling. As far as the nausea goes, it's best to keep food in your stomach at all times. And if you let your stomach get too empty, eat through the nausea. It seems counter-productive, but eating really does help.
Also, I take Vitamin B6 and 1/2 a Unisom sleep tab before bed every night-- this is an accepted help for morning sickness and it does seem to help me.
At first I just felt bloated and a little upset to my stomach but I could have passed that off as anything not pregnancy. Then came gagging for about 1 or 2 weeks. Then came the actual getting sick. Each day that passes I get sick more often. I would not worry about it cause man I wish I was there.
You would know if you had it. There is some proof to that old wives tale. Every symptom has a reason. When you are sick your body id trying to protect you from something. It really goes in depth in the book " You having a baby" or "You Being pregnant" Cant remember the name without the book right here.
Last Monday, right around the 6 week mark it hit me like a ton o' bricks! I was just telling my mother the night before how I'd been feeling well and I guess I jinxed it cause I woke up the next morning feeling awful! I've only vomited once during the past week and I think it was mostly due to taking a hot shower first thing in the AM without eating breakfast first. It's been an all day thing and I hope it does not last for another 6 weeks!
Good Luck!
I got hit hard at 5.5 weeks. For 2 days I thought I was going to die (room spinning, starving but can't eat, nasueous, tired). I tried phenergan and it made me hallucinate on top of it all.
Then I got Zofran and more used to it and the warning signs. Now it's worst from about 5:30pm-8pm. The Zofran takes the edge off, but doesn't take it away. It feels like the couple hours before you get sick. You know you are getting sick and you feel bad, but it's managable. I also feel feverish (hot and cold flashes) before it hits so I know to take something and get home quick if I'm out.
This!
Loss of appetite....but gagging if I don't eat. Vomit upon ingesting ANYTHING (including water). Have to take diclectin to get through life. I hope you don't get it!!!
This was me EXACTLY with DD. This time around it is still bad, but more managable. DanceDeva if you ever need someone to vent to, feel free to PM me - HG SUCKS!!!!!
OP, I hope you are one of the lucky ones! Enjoy the good days!
