TTC After a Loss

Question - Miscarriage, one AF, then late?

There are so many knowledgeable people here, I had a question.

Hi Smile by the way!

I had a miscarriage back on June 15 at 6w5d.  I had a period almost right on time after that, it was pretty heavy.  Now, I am 9 days overdue for my period.  I am not pregnant.  Is this typical?  Ever since going off birth control in November 2009, I have had very regular periods, so it seems unusual to me that they would start going haywire now.

I admit, I'm worried that my cycle will now turn irregular and I will have a harder time TTC.  It was actually very easy to get pregnant the first time around. I really hope this regulates itself.

Any similar experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated!

  • I'm sorry for your loss but welcome to the board.  Sometimes it takes a while for your body to regulate after a m/c.  My cycle actually changed but a few days.  I used to have approx 31 days cycles (sometimes 32)but since my m/c they have been 29 days and like clockwork.  Your body has been through a lot so give it time.

  • Yep. The general rule of thumb is that the cycles take about three months (sometims more, sometimes less) to go back to "regular" again.

Are you charting? Do you know what day you Oed? Is is that your time before O has lengthen, or is it your LP that has lengthened?

If you aren't charting, I would suggest it, as it provides great clues about the body and will allow you to identify WHY your cycle is longer this month.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. Welcome to the board. Unfortunately after a m/c it takes a while for your body to regulate itself again. It took me about 4 months for my cycles to go back to normal. I have a friend though that it took over 6 months. It's hard to say what will happen. Good Luck.

  • I am sorry for your loss.  Getting pregnant the first time was easy for me too.  I was right off BC.  Since my loss my cycles were very regular.  28 days for 2 cycles and then 29 and this cycle a bit longer....I think it just takes your body time to regulate.
  • It's going to take your body some time to get back to normal.  Hugs to you, I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • I haven't been charting probably to the extent you speak of, but I did use the OV Watch last month.

My last period started on July 21.  On Aug. 1, my watch indicated "Fertile Day 1" and indicated ovulation day 1 on the 5th.  If accurate, I would have ovulated on the 5th.  That would make my time before OV at 14 days.  That would make my luteal phase still going at 26 days.
  • It's not unusual, because your body has just gone through a miscarriage. It may take a while to go back to 'your normal'. And it may or may not. Everyone's body reacts differently. I hope it regulates soon for you though.

I'm sorry for your loss. Oh, and make sure to read the 'peas'. The link is in some of the ladies signatures. Gives some info on how the board works and basic rules a lot of the posters follow. It's very helpful for the board and for IRL. Basically, this is a very give support and get support in return. I usually try to give new posters that info, as I learned that in posting on this board in the last couple months.

(P.S. if you do get a BFP -big fat positive- soon, there is a great board to called pregnant after a lost that is pretty awesome. Make sure to not post BFP's on loss boards, the PGAL board is there for that. Not that you would post it here, a lot of new posters don't realize it.)

Hope that's helpful, and again i'm so sorry for your loss. *Hugs*

  • I'm sorry for your loss. It is possibly for your cycles to still be a little off. After my loss, I O'd a few days earlier than normal. Next cycle (this one), I'm past my normal O day with no O yet. Hopefully you will get AF soon and be able to move on to the next cycle.

  • Welcome to the board. As the other ladies said, it's normal for your cycle to be a bit off after your m/c. I hope all goes well and your stay here is short!

  • I am going through this same thing right now.  I know I am not PG, but my second AF post-M/C is late.  I called my OB to make sure it was ok that my cycle was a little weird this time around.  My doc said what all the TTCAL ladies have said, that it takes your body awhile to return to "normal" after a loss.  Hopefully AF will arrive soon!  Good luck!

  • After my most recent m/c, I had a 28 day cycle and then a 40 day cycle. I've never had a cycle over 32 days before my m/c.

It just takes time for your body to "regulate".
